This movie was the reason i got into the MCU, saw iron man and avengers before but never thought it was a continueing thing, in 2016 i started seeing the Civil War ad everywhere and just decided to check it out, blew my mind how great it was, specially in the final fight i was so emotionally invested, i was rooting for tony to kill winter soldier. after that i rewatched the entire MCU and rewatched Civil War, and with the added back story the movie became one of my favorite superhero movies ever. I love everything the russo brothers did in the MCU. i rewatch it every year and it will always be the #1 superhero movie for me, i honestly have never been so emotionally invested in a superhero movie ever. Other thing i love is they avoided the 'x vs y' movie models, where the 'x' and 'y' fight for the first half and in the second half they introduce a third guy so 'x' and 'y' can team up and fight. by avoiding that they are able to make the final fight more personal and not lose that emotional weight

One thing a lot of people don’t seem to realize is that Ultron *wasn’t* Tony’s creation. The AI had always been contained within the Mind Stone. It was planted there as a bug, most likely by Thanos (hence the “I’ll do it myself” line), to take over Earth’s defenses. And Loki’s scepter was held and experimented with by Strucker before the Avengers got to him. Which means it was only a matter of time before Ultron was unleashed upon the world. It it hadn’t been by Tony, it would’ve been by Strucker.

Zemo is *NOT* lame, aside from Thanos he’s the only villain who’s succeeded against the avengers If you’re going by the logic that they eventually got back together, then Thanos is lame by that logic as well bc they eventually undid the snap

Yeah, it literally takes 7 years for the Avengers to reunite. I'm not sure there's any other villain that was so succeessful at their goal. Also, the Avengers split up again right away. So, until a new Avengers film comes out, Zemo is still kind of winning.

Tony was right about accountability but the Sokovia Accords were forced on the Avengers unfairly without the option of finding a middle ground. Cap hints at this at one point, but is angered when he finds out Tony had already locked down Wanda at the compound.

In answer to John's point about Vision's shot being perfect, the real problem is that Vision was on the ground comforting Wanda when he should have been in the air helping out War Machine so he was very much so distracted. Secondly, the fact that he even thought to fire a shot like that at such a distance shows that he was not thinking clearly or he surely would've realized that Sam would have had time to dodge and he could have possibly hit his ally. He's got a supercomputer brain after all and any of Tony's other A.I.s could have come to that same conclusion. Finally, the fact that he would use such a lethal beam at all on a former teammate in the air without realizing that it would likely not only destroy his wings but probably also his emergency parachute leaving Sam in the same situation Roadie was in is just even further proof that HE WAS DISTRACTED! Vision was distracted by Wanda which led him to make several bad decisions in the heat of battle and there were consequences for those decisions which bled into the future.
@Prodigalzson2 жыл бұрын
Exactly, on top that...he didn't even know what love was, much less how it feels. He'd never felt love before. He didn't even understand what being distracted even meant at that point. So yeah...distraction.

Honestly I think Zemo in this film is closer to his comic counterpart than most people give him credit for. Sure he doesn't have the costume, he's not part of Hydra, and Captain America didn't melt a mask onto his dad's face, but the core of the comic character is still there. He's fundamentally a character driven by wanting revenge for his family (not unlike comic Zemo and his dad), and is an incredibly smart tactician just like the comics. He has the line 'I have experience and patience, a man can do anything with those' which can easily be applied to either comic or MCU Zemo. I understand the point of Zemo maybe being pointless, you could easily tweak the film and he'd not be needed, but to me I read it as the accords were churning the waters for the team, but it was Zemo framing Bucky that was the linchpin that caused everything to escalate as fast as it did. To me it felt like Zemo wasn't trying to introduce a new threat to the Avengers, hence the whole fake out with the other Winter Soldiers at the end, which to me is why he works. He just needed to move the pieces that were already there, play on their existing flaws, traumas and insecurities, and have them split when he wanted to, rather than introduce something exterior or potentially wait it out, let them fight amongst themselves and risk them potentially coming to a compromise.

They are accountable to "publicly elected entities". It's called "the law". If the USA, or any other government, wants to prosecute any Avenger for any crime they commit, they can do so. They just have to respect that person's right to due process.
@Vulcanerd Жыл бұрын
@@oliviastratton2169 I thought that was the issue, though? There wasn't anyone they were accountable to? And what regular law enforcement was going to put a rogue super hero/villain 'under arrest' or apprehend them if they went rogue? @oliviastratton2169 Жыл бұрын
@@Vulcanerd "What regular law enforcement [is] going to put a Rogue super hero/villain 'under arrest'". German Special Forces (+ Col. Rhodes) are used to arrest Steve, Sam, Bucky, and T'Challa in this movie. So, it seems military organizations are perfectly capable of arresting supers. We already use the military to go after international terrorists and cartels, so you don't need the UN for that. Besides, the Accords don't create some special enforcement mechanism. They mostly deal with pre-approval, jurisdiction, and sentencing.
@Vulcanerd Жыл бұрын
@@oliviastratton2169Exactly, you're using military, not law enforcement. You're already have to resort to other methods. And Steve, Sam Bucky and T'Challa are not the same as Hulk, Scarlet Witch or Thanos level villians, never mind that those three could probably wreck two or three hundred of any military sent to them at a time. And jurisdiction, pre-approval, sentencing are just part of the parcel, not like those things aren't important, either.
@oliviastratton2169 Жыл бұрын
@@Vulcanerd As I said, we ALREADY use the military to go after criminals local police can't handle. You don't need a UN resolution for that. You don't need the UN to sentence criminals. Therefore, jurisdiction doesn't need to be changed. You still haven't addressed who the UN would use to apprehend superheroes that countries can't use themselves. I guess pre-approval is where we might just disagree. I wouldn't trust Secretary Ross to decide when the Avengers should/shouldn't be deployed. And I wouldn't trust the UN either (which I why mentioned their real-life Peacekeeping activities). There are NGOs in real life that investigate and even capture criminals. And NGOs that assist with natural disasters. We haven't needed to create a separate legal system with no due process to deal with them. A better resolution would just be telling paramilitary NGOs they need to coordinate with local/national law enforcement when apprehending criminals. And then maybe encourage Interpol to recruit some super-powered officers to help arrest super-powered fugitives. Actually, asking the Avengers to work for/with Interpol would have made a lot more sense than this whole UN Accords business. There are two criticisms of Steve I think are fair: 1. Maybe he should have helped the German Special Forces capture Bucky instead of helping Bucky resist arrest. 2. He definitely should have told Tony about his parents before the events of this movie. I understand why he didn't want to do those things. But those were legitimately wrong decisions.

The one thing that really bothered me about Civil War, is that there were no real consequences. It's only briefly mentioned in Spider-Man: Homecoming, and Ant-Man is under house arrest in Ant-Man 2. We never see the Avengers struggling with the outfall of Civil War. There are five movies between Civil War and Infinity War, and only Black Panther and Spider-Man even appeared in Civil War, and neither of them faced any consequences. It would have been nice to have a couple of movies showing how the two sides struggles with operating within the Sokovia accords, and with being on the run. It could have helped if Black Widow had come out in this period, but even that doesn't really tackle the subject.

@@steves6451 I totally disagree with that. The very first thing Steve Rogers did after the attack in Scotland, was to head directly to the Avengers compund. From this moment, the Avengers were de facto already united. Yes, Iron Man, Spider Man and Doctor Strange were now on their way to Titan. But, this attack on New York only lasted 10 minutes. You can't expect all avengers to be within 10 minutes of Tony Stark at all time. I'm sure they would have been able to capture Doctor Strange, and get a couple of Avengers to follow them, even if the Avengers were united. Besides, this is a very problematic claim, as long as we're discussing fiction. Infinity War was always going to end with Thanos winning. If Civil War hadn't been made at this point, they would still have written it so that Thanos had won. Sure, they would have had to make some changes. They would have had to find another excuse for why half the team were on a different continent. Maybe Cap, Sam, Nat and Wanda could be on a mission in Lagos. Maybe Vision could join them, too. That's about it. All that's missing now is an excuse for why Hawkeye and Ant Man aren't there.

To Zemos plan... I agree and disagree with John on that... Zemos plan to let the avengers tear themselves apart... has big flaws... However... i feel like the point of making Cap and Tony fight and hopefully kill each other was a sudden idea sparked of finding the tape of Bucky killing the starks. Before that Zemo didn't care about the Accords or the Avengers... at least not as top priority. His goal from the start were the 5 Winter soldiers... If the first hydra agent would have told him the mission report, Zemo never had to blow up the UN meeting, never framed Bucky for he didn't needed to get him out of hiding... yet. Zemos plan for the majority of Civil War was to find and kill the other Winter Soldiers. Only after this was done, the next group of Super powered beeings became the next target. I still think the only Real problem was making it look like Zemo wanted to lure Cap to the last facility as part of his plan... that's were it fell apart. If they had made it the way that Zemo Was surprised to see them Show up and improvised the Video to secure his escape would have made much more sense and would have been much more in line with his character, intelligence and motivation. For we know Zemo is patient... just imagine if he got the video and went off... leaving him with all the time he needs to create and prepare a real plan to split the Avengers...

Without this film we don't get endgame. Thanos Beats the avengers because their fractured in infinity War. This movie stands on it's own but it's truly an origin how the avengers loss. Yes they won at the end of endgame but at what cost. People lost five years Tony died. Cap retired

Cap was in an alternate timeline bruh. Otherwise why let 9/11 happen, or leave Bucky as is. Perfectly explained in Endgame how it works. The time space GPS allows him to go wherever whenever, he didn't need to appear on the platform.

This movie is a masterpiece even with a lame villain lol. But please guys tell me you noticed the tiny connection Marvel did with the Black Panther and Hawkeye scene. 'I don't care'....Then in End game Hawkeye is protecting the gauntlet, is about to be trampled then, BOOM! Black Panther drops in with a energy blast to save him...." Clint.. Give it to me" the Mcu is Incredible lol

Also, to counter what Orange Hand says, there's a HUGE difference between controlling the spread of a virus and whether governments should or should not limit the actions of super-powered beings. Super-powered beings are people who can make the responsible choices to limit casualties. A virus isn't autonomous, it will 100% spread if it's not kept under control. If you cough on someone, the virus doesn't choose whether or not to latch on to the person who was coughed on, it WILL latch onto them. The person who coughed made the choice to cough, but the cough itself isn't the danger. The virus that is released because of that cough is not only the danger, but because the virus isn't autonomous, you can only control it with certain guidelines and rules put in place. A virus' only role in life is to reproduce more of itself in any way it can.

Super-powered beings don't always make responsible choices. Because they have great power, any mistakes they make have a much greater impact. Is it okay for them to subject an entire town to mental torture as a means of coping with grief? What happens if they decide that they should be running things and suddenly there's an Injustice-style world? Imagine if Homelander or Stormfront existed in the MCU, would they make the responsible choices?
@TheHannahcast2 жыл бұрын
@@OrangeHand Then you hold that super-powered being responsible. That doesn't mean crime is legal for them.
@OrangeHand2 жыл бұрын
@@TheHannahcast How do you hold them responsible, especially if they resist arrest? The Justice League cartoon explored this issue by acknowledging how Earth wouldn't stand a chance against the League if they went rogue, so certain government entities create contingencies for that outcome, which often went wrong but even Batman was forced to acknowledge that the concerns about keeping superheroes in check were justified.

I love Ray and he is a sweet guy and I think he’s great on TJCS, but I really wish he wasn’t on these Movie Club videos. I know they want an ‘every man’ but Ray completely kills the momentum and bogs down the show when he tries to interject with John and Rob. I’ve tried to get into Ray being on these videos, and after the Aliens episode, I was gonna give him another shot. I haven’t broken the 10 minute mark yet and he’s already derailed the momentum. Ray, I love you my movie dude, and I love seeing you on TJCS, but Movie Club, I just don’t think it’s your wheelhouse.

The sound of Civil War was strange. It sounded like they filtered it slightly to remove some recurring noise. This was very noticeable in the airport scene. Other than that I really enjoyed the film.

Avengers didn't split because of political, or even moral reason. They split because of simple human reason.Cap's betrayal.And that's why Zemo won. Without him, Cap, and Natasha would never tell Tony the truth.

He killed (directly and indirectly) how many innocent people, between Laos, the UN bombing, and breaking into Bucky’s prison? Yeah maybe if it was just a feud he had with the Avengers, that’s one thing but he killed so many people to get his revenge, not justified

As it aged, my feelings towards Civil War are that it’s really just a finely polished mid-level MCU film that relies on recognizable characters, incredible set pieces, and frequent setting progressions to distract from its many flaws. Fortunately, not many of its flaws are too noticeable the first time you watch it, so it’s still much better than something along the lines of Dawn of Justice.
