Honestly, people just have biases. If you dislike Avatar because it's not original, then how can you possibly defend most Marvel movies? I don't understand why Marvel movies get a pass for being lazy while other movies don't.
@TheAdam1995 Жыл бұрын
At least most Marvel movies aren't trying to pretend they're anything above serviceable entertainment and at least some projects like Loki and Wakanda Forever tried something different in terms of tone and style. This is James Cameron we're talking about. The same man who once brought us classics like Terminator and Aliens has now become a senile has-been who gave less of a shit about his iconic past works and is more concerned with needlessly pushing his VFX artists for thirteen years without ever bothering to come up with anything interesting or captivating story-wise for his epic sci-fi sequel. It was excusable with the first Avatar because it needed to be simple to introduce audiences to a new world with it's own characters, conflicts and lore. A sequels is either supposed to expand upon that or bring something new to the table. Instead of doing either of that with The Way of Water, Cameron got unforgivably lazy and shamelessly gave us The Hangover Part 2 all over again. For as much as Cameron whines about how unoriginal Marvel movies are, what the fuck was his excuse for Way of Water, that dick-headed hypocrite!

You know what? Girl power for the sake of it can be annoying, I’ll give you that. But Peach’s strength has logic behind it. She seems to have lived there her whole life, so of course she’d be more capable than Mario at first. There’s also a training course too, so there’s that. In the film, she’s shown to be physically capable and smart, yeah, but *she isn’t unstoppable.* Also, there was no dating, and she did actually do stuff for her kingdom, such as, oh I don’t know, EVACUATION AND TRY TO KEEP IT SAFE. The main Toad sounds oddly adorable though, as do the other mushroom citizens.

First, they hated on the excellent Fury of the Gods (all that criticism on Zachary Levi’s expense is just bulls**t! He and Asher were outstanding as Billy Batson and they match very well. Also, it has great action, interesting villains, great messages and the best chemistry out of all DC films) As a humongous fan and someone inspired to change his life for the better with the first film, it truly was worth the 4-year wait and, so far, is one of the best movies of 2023. And now, they even hated on Super Mario Bros. which was a surprisingly good movie. Great animation, amazing voice cast, fun story and you can tell that the creators truly loved the games. Overall, a very fun time. Nowadays, it’s very popular hating on fun and harmless movies and that needs to stop

Sometimes a kid's movie doesn't need to have deep layers (and I say this as a "deeper meaning in films" lover) -- And Super Mario was one of those movies that benefitted well from it (and in my opinion would have been at a far greater risk of being really bad if they tried that route). It was simple, it was fun, it touched everything needed from the franchise. I like a good, clean, innocent and simple film here and there, and honestly nowadays I think kids do too. I could just watch the film without really thinking about it/worrying about it. It felt nice! I usually really don't like Illumination's movies because they feel too juvenile and..insincere..? But this felt fine. You could tell they really tried here. Playing it safe did them some good this time around.

Sorry for having standards, I guess. Haven't seen it yet, but its made by Illumination (who aren't exactly known for quality) so I'm holding off on watching it. Maybe when it's streaming, I'll give it a look. I don't think every movie has to be high art, but I don't think it's snobbish to expect fun and quality at the same time. They aren't mutually exclusive.

Now I understand the critics have their own opinion on movies like this but there's just one problem for us audience... We don't care!

This joke would hit better if he wasn’t basically unknowingly making fun of himself when he reacts to Sonic. lol

Cool... A indictment of critics being out of touch with audiences from the man who doesn't like The Matrix

Those Rotten Tomatoes critics suck. I think video game movies are improving, starting with this movie. Despite its score, this movie was nominated for “Best Animated Feature” and became a box office success, and I’m glad it did.

The movie was fine. I took my kids to see it and there was a huge lineup of others taking their kids to see it. We saw Shazaam the week before and we had the theater to ourselves.
