You don't say, "Fire" to an archer, you say, "Loose." What does fire have to do with archery? It was a command given to artillery troops employing cannons. Hollywood gets that wrong a lot.

I would give anything to watch Hugh Jackman as Wolverine and Liev Schreiber as Sabertooth going to each of those wars. The opening sequence glossed over what would have been an incredible film. Watching Logan slowly come to grips with his near immortality, war after war, and watching his older brother slowly lose his humanity until he becomes feral is the movie I think we all secretly wanted in this origin story…

@@neolithikum443 a lot of young men have romantic views of the glory of war. That’s not strange, that’s why most anti-war films focus on a young man becoming disillusioned about what’s going on. Paths of Glory was one of the first films as a boy that did this for me.

There was a movie, I vaguely remember, where an officer (German?) is before a group of prisoners with another group of men who are to be executed. The officer makes each condemned man choose one of the other prisoners to "join them in death" (that specific phrase is used). The condemned men then move forward and select another man (typically an old one) for this. Anybody know which film this was in?

Did you know they only load one firearm with ammo and all the others are loaded with blanks. Nobody knows which gun is loaded either and this is because so no soldier will be consumed by guilt. Just like how they hang people on death row in Japan four guards four buttons but only one activates the trapdoor and they have no clue which one. Or was it three buttons? Something like that.😅

No, It's the other way around, all rifles will be loaded with bullets and only one will be loaded with blank. This will make soldiers feel like they are the one that have blank round amd doesn't feel guilty, if you only have one real bullet and the one who have it shoots and miss the heart, wouldn't it ruin the execution and make it unhumane?

Other way around. In the U.S. Army’s WW2 manual for such things, a firing squad consists of, usually 8 men. From 1 to 4 blanks are loaded. The weapons are loaded before being issued to the firing squad. The commands may be given verbally or with hand signals. The U.S. Army didn’t use a ‘coup de grace’ so if the condemned didn’t die immediately, the rifles were reloaded. The execution by firing squad of a German general who ordered the deaths of some U.S. POWs shows this well. It would appear that only one blank was issued.
