Hear! Hear! Certainly a go-to guilty pleasure of mine for the past 20 yrs -- the fight sequences (esp dragon aerials) still amaze me. Great story. WTF so under-rated?!
@rcb39214 ай бұрын
sucker punch continues to be one of the most beautifully stylistic movies I have ever seen. It is a shame it underperformed, but there really was a lot that was just wrong with it. The ratio of action to narrative is seriously unbalanced -- it's all fight and the audience never gets a breather so they can figure out what's going on. What's worse, is that every fight is totally epic-- there's no room to build. Without that rising action, you desensitize the audience and the action scenes actually start to become boring. And ultimately, I feel like the critics have a point when they complained about how the presentation of the characters really is at odds with the film's themes of empowerment and escape from abuse. Like... this movie is a criticism of objectification of women? Are you sure? Because I am totally certain there are were lots of guys going to watch the blonde girl deliver oodles of fan service while slaying her demons -- and not paying much attention to the demons. And at the same time, I think very few moms are pointing their daughters at Babydoll and saying, "go be like her."
@MegaJackpinesavage4 ай бұрын
@@rcb3921 Van Gogh under performed as well, selling only a handful of works in his lifetime (he originally had hoped to be a barber) many critics of his day saying, "there really is a lot that's just wrong with them". Of the many CGI enhanced movies I've seen in the past 20 yrs, SP's the only one I've returned to watch time & again -- schlocky fempowerment story perhaps, but the ascending detailed effects of its "fantasy" episodes still amaze me -- & I'm sure someday will be hailed as genius (certainly moreso than Anjelina Jolie in stilettos & spandex as Grendel's mother in a hairball take on "Beowulf" from around the same time).

The inertia from Hancock grabbing the kid to a dead stop from what I would say terminal velocity would've snapped his neck and legs and a whole lot of other bones, killing him instantly. Honestly should've put that in the movie would've been so much more interesting.
@mariusmioc30452 жыл бұрын
EXACTLY! And this seems to be a common error in many films and nobody seems to realise that the mere deceleration from about 200 kph/124 mph to zero would make most of the bones shatter and internal organs rupture. It would be the same as being hit by a truck travelling at 200 kph/124 mph.
@yonly655 ай бұрын
@@mariusmioc3045 Chucking him upwards with enough velocity to produce the air time would have been even more traumatic.
