It's completely baffling how the court allowed such jury instructions to be considered and deliberated by the jury. The jury essentially put Chad Oulson (He was the victim) on trial instructed jury to find him guilty without any required burden of proof while at the same time required State to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Curtis Reeves was guilty of killing Oulson. If one reads the jury instructions, the jury is required to prove the State's case beyond a reasonable doubt but not required to use any burden of proof to prove Chad Oulson was guilty of battery. I have never seen that in court where a court had instruction a jury to consider the guilt of a person without any burden of proof. Only the prosecution can bring charges against a person. The court or defense can't bring charges against a person but that is exactly what happened in this case.

You should def watch the trial.. There is no real evidence of him getting hit.. It was a very difficult case.. To me honestly the film just shows the younger guy throwing some popcorn.. The thing is the Old Man is retired Tampa Police Captain and his son who was an officer just arrived there too.. So I found it hard to believe he was so fearful.. But you never know!

Reeves is an elderly man and when he felt threatened he reacted...maybe excessively but then again, maybe not. He was 79. Elder abuse takes many forms. I guess he was just afraid for himself and his wife. If Chad (a younger, healthy man) was the aggressor then the other guy could defend himself legally. It's sad that it happened but it did...now Reeves has to live with it.
