On the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee the Autobot seeks refuge in a junkyard in a small California beach town. It's also a Nod to the Iron Giant. Bumblebee only got into this state when Charlie was hurt, similar to how the Iron Giant only went into battlemode when Hogart got knocked out. In a similar vein, both robotic lifeforms got their memories restored when that scenario occurred, both for the same reasons. Their Squishy little friend got hurt, so they went ballistic.

You can see how his body legit change to fit the characters he's playing. When he's calm, the machine pieces has big gaps, making him look more round and open. Basically a big, metallic teddy bear. When he's im assault mode, his form changed to look more sleek, giving him a compact looks and REALLY agile-looking. An absolute warrior.

It's like having the capability of an LMG, but you act like you're using a smoothbore musket that needs loading time, or a bolt action rifle or something. And his targeting of vehicles removes only the advanced offensive capability of them: soldier small arms might do much other than annoy him, and humans physically can't do much without tech or high explosives. He just... removed the advantage they had that made the playing field equal.

This scene was a huge lightbulb for me! The robot's eyes are naturally blue, but turn red when they get very angry! That's why the Decepticon eyes are red: because they're always full of hate, rage and malice, their eyes just stay red all the time! Genius!

I believe the eyes change willfully, or depending on how the bot is "trying" to appear. If they are trying to appear intimidating, their eyes naturally turn red as it's more of an aggressive color. That would line up with the Decepticons wanting to appear intimidating as possible, and Bee's stance during the battle. (Puffed out chest, looking down on the opponent. Mostly signs of intimidation tactics.)

Bumblebee in this movie was an absolute treat. This is one of the only times he goes into kill mode and it was always for a friend who was injured. I love how it's not just that the guy shoved Charlie down that set Bee off. It was how long it took her to get back up. Bee probably thought she was seriously injured and just loses it.
