@krogers86784 жыл бұрын
@Wubie Bear earlier in the movie he meets a man who's wife and daughter are missing, most likely died in the tsunami. The man travels with him, both of them searching for their wives and kids. The last stop is a hospital. The man writes the name of his wife and daughter on that piece of paper and gives it to him so he can check it against the list of names of survivors at that hospital. The piece of paper the man wrote the names on was the last note his wife left him, 'We are at the beach'. If they were at the beach, it's likely the wave killed them. When he looks at it, he's thinking how lucky he is to have his family, while also being reminded that most people lost loved ones. Same thing with Lucas pulling off the sticker from his shirt that the orphans and lost children wore. And the Mom, looking at how they wrote the wrong name on her arm to identify her body if she died.

This scene is happy and just so horribly sad at the same time. On one hand, they all survived, they found each other and they're going home. But then she looks out the window at the destruction, and I can't help but think that there was still many other famillies down there, who aren't going home yet because they're still searching for their loved ones who likely didn't survive. This family was lucky to all be alive, especially her. All the odds were against her with what happened to her and she still made it.

We hadn't heard from him in a week when he called to say he was allright. When he had recovered he stayed and helped other people in need. He felt so attached to the people that rescued him that he moved there a few years ago and started a business there.

He even let this father use his dying phone to contact the father's family. The man explained that he had woken up next to a note from his wife that said "We are at the beach" the day the tsunami hit. Odds are, they did not survive it. I mean, they were at the beach. But the man was still going around looking for his wife and daughter. When they reached a hospital, Thomas's father(this guy) went in to look for his family's names on a list and the man wrote his wife and daughter's names on a piece of paper. This was that paper. I just think it's a heartbreaking detail. While this father is safely on a plane heading home with all members of his family, the other father is most likely still looking for his family who may or may not be alive. This is such a bittersweet ending, especially since it's based on the real experiences of the survivors. I'm glad that the family survived, but at the same time the note that says "We are at the beach"... the gentleman who helped reunite them likely lost his wife and his little daughter, like so many survivors have lost loved ones. And those children who were with Simon and Thomas, who knows what's in store for them! And the locals, the hospital staff, I'm still amazed at their kindness toward the tourist victims despite their own pain and desperation to know that their families are safe. I can't begin to imagine what this family thought in the middle of this waking nightmare. They were incredibly lucky to survive!

Those who weren't alive back then, cannot fathom the shock and the numbness that the entire world felt collectively that day and the days to come. All countries internal issues were halted because we had to focus on sending help, donate money and food and get people out of there asap. For the first time in history of mankind, people were able to record a tsunami in all its forms, from the beginning to the end and upload it on the internet, since before 2004, the last time something like this happened, people didn't have cameras and the internet.

The only stories that are told and made into a film are from those who survived or whatever is written down on paper. The whole story is based around this family and it's already very sad journey (even though they are the luckiest in the event with a happy ending) that zoom out is just a reminder that there are many other untold stories that we'll never know or hear about. That zoom out really show how devastating the tsunami really was wiping out 200 000 people. And these were just 5 people, a speck in the chaos that we spent time with who managed to share their story. No other film has made me cry as much as this film, knowing that all of it was based on the family's actual story and knowing that there were so many people who died who never got to live to tell.

Forgive me, but I was amazed their insurance company provided an expensive air ambulance, apparently, WITHOUT any hesitation. I used to work for elected officials. I, often, received calls from people whose insurance companies took their premium money, then refused to pay claims telling the claimant to sue if they wanted their money. These folks wanted to know if the state's insurance commissioner could help. Sometimes. **An insignificant situation compared to the tsunami victims. My auto insurance company, after a minor accident, told me there'd be no premium increase if I kept the repair bill below $400.00. I did, but they raised my rates anyway. The Tsunami scene in this movie (along with the Tsunami in ‘Hereafter’ (2010) has to be the most: chilling, realistic tsunami scene I’ve ever seen in a movie. There is no musical score whatsoever, it’s all complete happenstance, as your just watching all those innocent people mothers, fathers, children old men and women just get obliterated by the tsunami, as it destroys everything in its path. Just watching those innocent people get swept by the wave as they scream in agony as they get swept through the debris and bushes underwater. You can literally feel almost everything in this scene. This and ‘Hereafter’ are the most realistic tsunami scenes i have ever seen in a movie.

All of them have severe PTSD, everything is making them nervous, the plane jolting, the noises, but they're alive and together.

The choice of the last shot being a full-screen shot of the ocean was excellent. The feeling it left me with was "the merciless, vast ocean"

Just know that most of the people in the comments are saying they survived a tsunami, they really didn't, their lying.

LittleSoul there’s a lot of ‘my twin died but I survived’ in all of the comments so I kind of thought so

Agreed i am sorry for everyone's loss but it's just not something to throw around on the internet and to get attention especially something as horrific as death it's disrespectful

There are millions killed in that Tsunami. It's not Just Thailand, it hit Malaysia, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Maldives, India, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Yaman, Somalia, Kenya, Tanzania, Madagascar, South Africa. How dare you claim such thing when in reality a lot of people were killed that day.

I’m so glad they all we’re safe in the end, but I now know how hard it was for them and what they went through, I hope they never go through something like that again.🤞🏻😔🤞🏻

A plane crash... big waves like these wouldn't be caused by a regular plane crash... I'm soo ashamed that it took me more than 5 years to watch this movie..... when I was sooo sad by this tragedy back in 2004 and I was only 15.... a fiance of one famous model from the Czech republic died there.....

That wide picture of the ocean shows that despite all of the hardships they went through mother nature couldn't care less because she is relentless and unforgiving

Many, many years ago my Father, little brother and I were trapped in a freak squall on the ocean on a small boat. I can still remember my Father catching my little brother as he was almost washed overboard. I have great respect for the ocean. And when we made it home I can still see my Mother’s face when she saw us, ran up to us to hold her family. The ocean is beautiful, an important part of our world but you will never find me on it again.

It’s crazy that when this happened I was 19 years old, and had just been at home from college during Christmas break. I remember returning my roommate wasn’t there. I thought was odd but didn’t think too much of it until about 3 days had gone by. Come to learn that his uncle and 2 cousins were there for the holiday. The cousins were about 6 and 8 years old. His aunt had taken the 6 year old with her to the beach while his uncle brought his 8 yr old cousin to go rock or tree climbing or rope gliding I forget but I remember him saying the 6 year old was too little to go. Well, that morning would be the last his uncle seen his 6 year old and wife ever again. Fast forward today and now I have a 7 year old son and I couldn’t imagine losing him. I lost touch of my old roommate over the years, but I think about him and his family from time to time and hard that must have been. Rip to all those who lost their lives that day
