Yeah I agreed with these comment too ..I just watched only later than now following it's ending yet I need add a comment. The Impossible film..i add to comment there's not enough of the resort or government quick approached to verify so many tourist victims of their own. Like this one family survived !

Just saw it now and it was a masterpiece. Not sure why they portrayed everyone as blond and English when Maria obviously isn't, despite her excellent grasp of English. Would love to know the reasoning behind that decision.

Fax. I remember the story from long ago. I just didn’t know this family was apart of it. We use to watch the videos on KZbin where you could see it coming in, and people on the beach were just watching it. There was nothing to do, and you would see people in their last moments.

Let's make something clear: The Tsunami was a big tragedy of proportions beyond comprehension.... around 300,000 people lost their lives and so many other were somehow destroyed physically, emotionally, economically or all together. So, in that context, facing such a terrible event and surviving it, not only yourself but all your family - 3 little kids from ages 5 to 10 involved - is a real blessing! And is sometimes in those dark moments when humans are able to show some.... humanity. Regards!

The comment said she lived because she was smart, meaning she knew what to do because she had training. It's perfectly logical that a doctor would have skills and reasoning in this situation. That does not mean someone thinks it's okay for others to die.

I am struck by this woman's presence, her description of being at once human, ordinary and weak while being strong, genuine and in the moment with what is happening. I have seen the film several times and am happy that she sees Naomi in the same way as I, genuine, unique in her portrayals, and always becoming a different person in her characterization. Maria is an example of what it is to be divinely human. I could call her "Every Woman," but in reality, the parts of herself that she owns and then shares of herself are exemplary and far above average, both in the telling of her story and in her clear recognition that she is telling every humans tale of pain, suffering, fear and survival. I have often said that Naomi Watts is by far the most underrated actor in Hollywood and Maris is equally underrated in her determination to share her true story for the good of all. I take my hat off to both of them. Thank you, Maria and Naomi for bringing this true account for us all to feel. The line which has stayed with me most is in the scene where Maria and her son hear the cries of a young boy. Her son says they have to move on but Maria/Naomi say, 'We have to [help him] even if its the last thing we do." I can say with deep respect for Maria that even in all her pain and fear, she never lost her humanity.

I watched the CNN transmission for the whole day when the tsunami hit and I still remember the scenes, 14 years after. I cannot imagine what Maria must see in her memories and dreams. I do not tend to shed a tear for any movie, but this one was so touching that I could not suspend my tears on many scenes. The scene with women in the village helping Maria to dress was one of the most moving scenes because it showed the humanity in its basic form, pure empathy, thus I think that Naomi needed to feel a real Maria for being able to transfer that so perfectly in her act.

A working commerad from my company were there in Thailand in 2004 when the tsunami hit. He helped a young Thai woman survive in the flood waves and they both survived. They fell for each other and got married afterwards. They moved to our country and live together here in Norway in a nearby town. Another collegue from my job had planned to go there - but chose to wait till after Christmas because he wanted to save money and relax when there were fewer people around. My oldest brother bought a house that belonged to a family that were spending their holyday in Thailand. The whole family got wiped out by the tsunami - all died ! It really is incredible how many people around the world that were inflicted by this disaster !

I watched this movie the second time after I had been in a near-fatal car accident... I can't tell you how much it moved me. I could relate to Maria so well, because I too thought I was going to die. Having to wake up in that car wreck and realize something serious has happened was a horrifying shock. One moment you are fine and the next your world is falling apart and you just need to survive. I didn't know how bad my injuries were, my glasses were gone and I was basically blind. By some miracle I could move my feet and hands and managed to drag myself out of that car. Then I saw blood on the ground and for a moment I jut cried out, because I thought the blood was coming from my nose. Right then my only wish was to see my family and boyfriend one more time. Nothing else mattered. Nothing else. Then I got up to my feet and yelled and waved for help. The next thing I remember is I am being put to a hospital bed in the ambulance and I can hear the nurses talking whether they should put on the emergency lights and make it fast. The other one says it should be okay without. All the while I just lie there on the bed staring at the ceiling when all my body hurts. I kept testing my legs and wondering how the hell they are still moving and I feel how lucky I am, because I know the crash was bad. I think I could have been dead for an hour already, but then I need to think of something else. In the hospital I see the doctors faces above me and I hope everything will be ok. They check my spine and tell me my spine is okay... I sigh out of relief. They leave me for some time, but I cannot rest. I just want to call my boyfriend, but my phone is broken. A nurse gives me a hospital phone and I call my dad, because his number is the only number I can remember. I tell him to tell my bf that I am okay. Then I just lie there and feel my body hurting like I have fallen from a tower to the pavement. The doctor comes back and tells me I might have a broken rib and that I have a concussion, but other than that I am fine and I can't believe my ears. I then go to the toilet and when I watch my face it is covered in blood and I understand why ppl have watched me weirdly. After a few hours a taxi takes me home, where my bf waits for me. The instant I see him I just rush to hug him like I never want to let him go as tears fall from my eyes. I was so happy... Later that day I saw my parents and I hugged both of them. I couldn't believe I was able to do it. That I was so lucky out of all those people, who were in the same situation as me... I still cannot believe it. It was a miracle. The car looked really bad. Seeing it made me want to throw up... If there had been someone with me on the front seat, they would not have made it and thinking about that was a nightmare. I cannot tell how blessed and lucky and happy I feel that I am alive.

For many years (10 or 15) I've had a dream of me standing on a cliff watching a massive wave heading toward the shore. The details of the dream a patchy but I had the same identical dream randomly throughout my adult life. I felt safe, but a over powering sadness I could never explain. I've not had the dream since 2004.

Same Dream myself. Wave standing on the shore. N standing n holding my children all to me n a rope to tie them last moment n digging my feet in the sand as the wave washed over us. Then some people calling out n their hands trying to pull us up to the top floors. I have all this children n giving them to be rescued as we are in the water.. Chaos n suffering. Goshh. Yeah I am afraid to be on the shore. N I totally love the Beach on cold weather. Realized I am not on my cell opps. Im Maria too.

Was unaware of this story until just last night when I watched the film. Of course I remember watching all the news accounts in 2004 and the emotion of knowing my fellow human beings were dying and suffering, but this interview crushed me. Amazing after more than 15 years. When I saw Maria reliving that event whilst being interviewed I felt the same pain and sadness I saw on her face. God bless all those affected by this disaster and others. The very next year Katrina decimated New Orleans. We live on a violent but beautiful planet. Be kind, humble and help others whenever possible. That is the lesson this teaches.

I prayed so many times in between crying. This family is such a blessing. Turned their tragedy to triumph. I would love to meet her and tell her how much her and her family story of survival. It’s crazy how she kind of sense this was coming. God preparers us for our battles and test in life. I kn

As goozeer1able said: Its not an act of God they are alive, its because of their own strengths. They fight to survive they don't sit down and pray and wait for God to save them. Believe in yourself and you can achieve anything God will do nothing for u. And how can it be a blessing from God if they are not religious? It says in the Bible if you don't believe you go to hell, why would he then help them?

I just watched The Impossible on Netflix and to say that I cried does not describe what I was doing. This was such an emotional, very well put together movie, that I was sobbing through much of it as if I had lost a loved one. So many lives lost, it's just devastating. Through this horrific event, this family managed to survive, which is amazing in itself but to be separated the way they were and to find each other again is pretty incredible too.
