CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Max (Matt Damon) fights a pair of armed security droids to keep Carlyle (William Fichtner) from flying to Elysium.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
In a future in which the privileged reside on an Earth-orbiting space station named Elysium and the less fortunate live on the surface of the blighted, overpopulated planet below, one man dares to defy the strict anti-immigration laws that separate the two disparate worlds in order to save all of mankind in this visceral sci-fi action thriller from District 9 director Neill Blomkamp. The year is 2154, and the division between social classes has grown wider than ever before. As the rich enjoy a life of luxury and access to cutting-edge medical technology on Elysium, the rest of the human race contend with poverty, crime, and disease on the surface of planet Earth. Meanwhile, hard-line immigration laws ensure that only those who have been explicitly approved will ever set foot on the elusive paradise in the stars. 36-year-old Max (Matt Damon) lives in an L.A. shantytown and earns his living by working on an Armadyne assembly line. He's had a rough past, but he's struggling to stay on the right side of the law when he realizes that his only hope for survival after being exposed to deadly radiation is to reach Elysium. Should Max succeed, he will strike a major blow for equality in the eyes of his fellow surface dwellers; should he fail, it will mean certain death. In his quest to become the hero who can restore the balance between the rich and the poor, however, Max must first do battle with Elysium's hawkish Secretary of Defense Delacourt (Jodie Foster), who has devoted her entire career to maintaining that division, and whose key enforcer Kruger (Sharlto Copley) is notorious for his brutal tactics in driving out illegals. With the fates of millions hanging in the balance, Max sets his sights on Elysium and never looks back. Alice Braga, Diego Luna, William Fichtner, and Faran Tahir co-star.

I also found that little detail to be so cool. Really gives off the feeling that it is a tool that is used for legitimate purposes that has been improvised into some kind of futuristic breeching tool. I love that about Niel Blom's movies. His futuristic weapon and technology concepts have a really cool almost improvised home made look to them.

For one... It's an AKM. For two, that gun not only is severely outdated, but heavily over rated. It does not perform better than any other modern weapon in terms of performance, in fact it's design makes it significantly harder to control. In muddy and dirty situations, the open design causes the AK 47 to malfunction and get jammed with mud very easily. The only thing good about it is that it requires less cleaning than most rifles. And we're talking about gunk from running the gun, if we're talking about mud... The gun will just stop functioning.

Great scene but it unfortunately includes my biggest movie pet peeve: the bad guy toss. For those of you that dont know, the bad guy toss is anytime a character is in his enemy’s grasps only then to be thrown for dramatic effect. The only purpose it serves is to give the character some breathing room. Breathing room to regroup, grab a weapon, what have you - - basically just to allow the fight to continue. Its completely unnatural. Notice how animals in the wild tend to attack, latch on to their prey, and not let go? Alligators death roll you, bears maul and shake you, yet killer battle droids just start tossing you around like it’s Monday Night Raw. It’s absurd lol. Sorry, just my rant. 😅

I've always wondered this about combat robots: "Why make the design mistake of putting the CPU in the head?" It's not necessary in a machine. Its processing should be in the most protected part of the chassis, such as where a humans heart is, where it can be armored from all sides and difficult to destroy or remove from the machine. Pulling the head off of a well designed combat robot should only degrade its performance, perhaps force it to use backup optics, but not take it out of the fight. It's the movie trope equivalent of destroying a computer by shooting the monitor.
@benthurber5363
@benthurber5363 3 жыл бұрын
Well, yes, but your brain is in the cranial vault, the most protected space in the body. It's also the shortest distance to your eyes for highest fidelity/lowest lag. I could see a case for shielding against EMP and saving space in the torso for bigger items like batteries, pumps, heat exchangers, etc. But I could also say that eye-stalks from the head and 360° vision would be more sensible.

@joshuawhite3411
@joshuawhite3411 3 жыл бұрын
I don't think it is a design flaw, it's a design strength. You can make the head really small like the battle droids from star wars, which makes it harder to hit. There is also plenty of room to hide the CPU in the head. If the CPU was in the chest for example, there is a much higher chance of either it or it's critical components being damaged as the chest is a larger thing that will be hit by gun fire. It's not about putting it in the strongest place, it's about putting it in the place that's hardest to hit.

Some subtle realities need to be suspended when watching this movie. But this movie has some of the greatest scenes in cinema in my opinion. -The camera going in first person back view with his adrenaline rushing, is a cinematic masterpiece of a shot. - the dude with the tattooed forehead, when he shoots at the bird before getting blown up, the shot of his muscles vibrating to his gun shots is another wow in cinema. IMO… The weaponry and machines are amazing. The exosuit, not bad, but for budgets sake it’s okay. Like I said, some reality needs to be suspended in any movie.

Yes, but the model that is shown in Elysium and the Call of Duty games is that they’re more of a engineering/construction model then something a soldier would use. Article and KZbin videos have show how while not up to par for real world combat, they’re perfect for labor work and increasing a worker physical capability.

I just saw some concept arts of Elysum and they were amazing. Lots of different types of robots, exoskeletons and high-tech robots using artificial organic parts? If think if the movie's plot were revolving around three factions on Earth: One is the Elysium corporation possessing all the advance fighting machines. On Earth, a authorian militaristic organization controling large parts of the world. The last is the resistence and that's where Max comes in the story. The second faction using 21th century weapons and vehicles, and the second most resourcesful of all the players in the game.
