I love how when he wakes up and thinks it's a dream he reverts to the old, soft, high-society version of himself. Then when he sees Valentine the hardened, experienced (better) version emerges and he goes into attack mode. Probably Aykroyd's best performance.

The Dukes probably thought that Winthorp would be so happy to see his old cushy life back, that he'd eventually forgive them. @@alvexok5523 They also weren't going to take him back after what he did, they were just going to go with some other random person
@alvexok55234 жыл бұрын
@@thealmighty9, the film didn't really explore too much on who they'd take back if they didn't take back Winthorp. It probably wouldn't be someone random with a very high level executive position like that. As for if they'd take him back, Randolph told Mortimer in the bathroom "now what do we do about taking Winthorp back and returning Valentine to the ghetto?", and Mortimer replied that he didn't want him back after what he did (waving the gun around and planting drugs while disguised as Santa). But it was only Mortimer who said he didn't want him back, he was the one who insisted that Winthorp would end up coming out on top no matter what they did to him. Randolph expected an outcome like the one they got (he said earlier how if they strip him of everything, he'd take to crime like a fish to water). Since one was willing to take him back and the other not, I'm really not sure if they actually would have or not if the movie hadn't taken the other turn of them both being stripped of everything

Yeah that always bothered me. Like a low level conman managed to set all this up but the multi millionaire Dukes are above suspicicion.

I think it’s because they were white and of his class. He also worshipped them as you see from his reaction when they didn’t praise him for his work. He was able to believe it of a black guy from the ghetto as to him they were all criminals. Look at the way he reacted when he bumped into Billy Ray knocking him over. He automatically assumed he was stealing his briefcase rather than just handing it back. Then he believed it was some kind of revenge on Billy Ray’s part for having him arrested

Great movie, I've known people just like the Dukes, arrogant, elite d bags, when people like that loose everything and end up poor tickles me to no end. Welcome to the 90% world.

Some types of rich people have probably started thinking that they're invincible, they've never had the feel of not living a cushy life

Well we did get to see what happened to them. We find out in cameo they did in Coming to America. Thing was it was a perfect setup for a sequel. If Ralph Bellamy hadn't passed they probably would have done it.
