This movie was going to be a big hit. Christopher Reeve had more creative freedom with the film. The budget was at $30 million at first. But as canon films started to take a dive they lowered the budget drastically. You can clearly see it in the film. The cut outs of superman flying, the horrible fight choreography are a couple examples. Christopher Reeve was still a good superman. He just got screwed.

Max West in reality all four films were made and distributed by Warner Bros, but they fucked up by not caring about 3 & 4, and allowing the production studio to be Cannon. At least they learnt their lesson with 1989's Batman and didn't let another production company be heavily involved.

I was just one of the many 80's kids who saw this at the cinema back in 1987 (as part of an end-of-Summer-Term school outing), in Oxford. I loved it at the time, and even then I thought that the special effects were clunky, cheap-looking and quite crap, but still I liked it quite a lot. It was a 'Superman' movie, after all! I couldn't ever understand the bit where Nuclear Man crashed down through the ceiling of the Daily Planet's newspaper tycoon's office, and grabbed his daughter, then flew up into space with her (she was an ordinary mortal human being, and obviously not able to breathe in space without an astronaut suit - and so there she was, floating around up there still just in her ordinary clothes with Nuclear Man!)

Yup. I believe it was actually 3/4 of the budget went to MOTU. Which, to be fair (despite not being very,... Um,... Good) was the better movie.

@@timaustin2000 yeah it's abit of a cult classic in a cheesy way but superman 4 is totally unwatchable in my opinion

Thought the film is terrible, I have to admit, 0:49 it's impressive the sfx team constructed part of the Great Wall, and make it look so convincing before jumping to the miniature distant shot.

Its a shame that the Bluescreen is so abysmal, because the Model Work and especially the Matte Paintings really do look good.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed the inconsistencies with the NY topography in this film.
@s1lentw1nter3 жыл бұрын
@@Hypestrike1 The main reason for that could be that they couldn't get a permit to film in NY, so they filmed a lot of this in the UK, a City called Milton Keynes, It has a shopping maul with Glass windows similar to those found in NY. The UN building - Thats actually the MK railway station, The Daily Planet Lobby - The Living well health Spa - 488 Avebury Boulevard The Metropolis Hyatt Hotel - Argos Retail Chain HQ, 489-499 Avebury Boulevard

1:32 when Superman grabbed his legs like that, Nuclear man should've just kicked him. Kinda reminds me of a dog grabbing ahold of a rabbit🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

What was funny about that scene, is that right after Nuclear Man escapes Superman holding onto his legs, Superman suddenly becomes tired out. lmao
