I love this scene. all of the camp and silliness just stops for a moment as the klown delivers a legitimately terrifying declaration of their commitment to nothing but slaughtering people. Its a brilliant subversion of expectations and tone, and unironically scary. Edit: also gotta give props to the actor playing the sheriff, he gives a convincing puppet performance

There's a couple of scenes in the movie as terrifying as this. Them walking through the streets looking silly and ridiculous but collecting human bodies and killing everyone. When they are in the house trying to put the girl in a comically large balloon so she can suffocate. By coincidence she got lucky and only got put in a balloon to be rescued from while others got the cotton candy cocoons. LOL. Like three of them show up and she tries to escape out the window only to find they are waiting below blocking her escape as well. Absolutely terrifying to have several of them right in her house. This is why this is one of my favorite cult classics. It is completely absurd and hilariously ridiculous and pokes fun at people being scared of clowns but it is also a legitimately good creepy movie at times that is terrifying. It's the perfect mix of silly but scary.

A lot of people associate the actions of Jumbo here for the species as a whole but I think each Klown has their own personality and Jumbo is the most demented and sick out of all of them as evident by the fact that some Klowns consume humans through the cotton candy cocoons while Jumbo didn't even care about cocoons as he leaves them behind and just straight slaughtered people and left bodies everywhere he went.

Best B movie of all time. I honestly say that with all the love in the world... For such a ridiculous movie and premise, the filmmakers actually know how to tell a story, create some suspense, do some badass makeup, design all the crazy circus themed sets, and make the most out of their small budget, while never taking themselves too seriously. Yknow what, if the movie had a trimmed down atmosphere, slower start with more scenes like this, it couldve easily been one of the greatest horror flicks of the 80’s. Clowns are creepy sure, but couple that with this sheer terror and lack of remorse and thats a monster to remember.

I don't know why everyone was so afraid of this movie back then. I'm usually a cry baby when it comes to horror movies, but theres something about clowns that just can't scare me.

These killer klowns are so complex, the only slasher/alien movie where they just want to kill for the sake of killing. Yet they are vastly intelligent beings with their own classes and ranks.

One of the Chiodo brothers said on interview that he imagined the Klowns being in reality a race of "slugs" that evolved clown-like features. I think Jumbo's death scene indicates that they are in reality artificial or energy-based life-forms.
