Stupid movie. Whenever I see a vampire who was newly made go up against an elder vampire that has existed for a thousand years and the new vampire easily kills the elder vampire. I always think about how bad the writing is. That older vampire should be almost godlike. A being beyond human conception that has existed for so long he should immediately be able to predict what other people are going to do before they even do it. How would he have managed to live for this long if he had been a complete idiot? Good writing would make it hard to kill him and require a ton of thought and preparation. Like using garlic, holy water, sunlight, and stake the vampire before the newly turned vampire chopped his head off with an axe. You could write that because she is newly turned, she is resistant to sunlight, but he is extremely susceptible to it. It shouldn't be enough to just turn into a vampire and win by default. 40 Days of Night pulled the same crap, and I hated that movie as well.

Meh, if anything it’s more about classism and how the rich tend to treat the poor/working class. With a triage of misogyny given the situation she is forced into. It’s a prevailing theme and plot point of the movie. The very few instances that make references to her race are so subtle and surface level that you could put a white woman into the lead role and it would still work as commentary on classism instead. To the point that I was confused why people kept saying the movie was ‘woke’ because it was an allegory dedicated to racism-which actually wouldn’t be woke either; because that’s not actually what the term ‘woke’ means. Well, it didn’t until conservatives started using it as a eye rolling dog whistle to complain about anything related to minorities, women, or LGBTQIA+ leanings, but I digress. I realized that it was probably just the same usual subset of individuals complaining. The types would have never watched and had no intention of watching this movie and instead leapt to conclusions because of basic synopsizes and the lead actress being a minority. The very type that always whine about ‘woke’ this and ‘woke’ that. Effectively telling on themselves.
