@rngrtt36894 жыл бұрын
@@kryptonianpowers sorry for nerding this one out, but 2 hypothesis on the folklore try to get an explanation: - The first one is that mirrors at the time were a kind of mystical object and were said to reflect people's soul. Thus, vampires could not see themselves for they had sold their soul to the Devil. - Second one is that mirrors at that time where based on silver reflection, wich was at the time considered as a way to kill a vampire, given silver was associated with purity (note that given that, it was also effective against werewolves). They were not able to reflect themselves in it as it was both hurting them and due to them being impure, their reflections would not show in the silver.

Werewolves were believed to be men and women who could turn into WOLVES, this superstition helped in fueling the fires of exterminating Europe's wolf population, as they were often associated with the devil, witches and demons. I love how they did each monster. Brides- able to turn into human when not hunting and vampire bat hybrids when attacking. Frankenstein's Monster- you see a bit of the universal monster version, but more realistic approach. You see it in the design where his brain and heart have glass containers charged with some supernatural power which gives the being life. Wolfman- I LOVE THE TRANSFORMATION SCENES!!! This is how I kinda imagine how they change between human and wolfman. Dracula- again with seeing a bit of the old school universal monsters. They give him more of a younger sleek look. And when he goes into monster form, that's how I picture how Dracula would be in Demon Bat form. Underrated yet a great action movie to watch and enjoy...especially now!

What's interesting about the werewolf transformations is when they transform before the curse becomes permanent, they shed out of their skin, but when the transformation became permanent (like it did with Velkan), the fur actually grew on top of his skin and his skeletal structure reshaped as opposed to appearing beneath the skin. That was a nice overlooked detail.

I'm going to say right now. Van Helsing is a masterpiece. The way Stephen Sommer set the tone for Transylvania with his set design, costume and music, is just so immersive and fun! . And his monsters have so much character, the vampires are straight out of a Victorian paintings. And I love how Dracula and his vampire wives deliver their dialogue like they're singing.. It's almost sad when Helsing executes them, because they're so beautiful. And the character design of Frankenstein and the werewolves, they were so violent and explosive. And considering this to be a action heavy movie, all of the sequences were purposeful and creative, and further immersed you into the Transylvania world, and what it mist be like to hunt vampires for a living. I consider this a monument in the vampire genre. I wish they would have rebooted it, with Warren Ellis as a writer, and Sommer directing again. Apparently James Wan is producing a reboot, but honestly I'm pretty skeptical .

This Ball is EVERYTHING. So gothic and misterious
@nateborie63293 жыл бұрын
Seriously, how did this movie not become a trilogy. It alone defines everything that the monster universe should be. Hugh Jackman is an excellent Van Helsing, because he's got the physique and the rogue-ish demeanor that says if you screw with me I'll make sure you never see the light of day again. Not to mention the fact that the actor who plays as Dracula just knocks the role out of the park. He's devilishly evil, deceptively charming, and absolutely terrifying when he gets serious. And in many ways, despite the fact that he's trying to unleash an army of little vampires on the world, you actually feel from the way he talks that he's someone to actually have emotions for, that he's someone to relate to and not just some monster to be killed at the end of the movie and instantly say "on with the next one." So, there's definitely something to be said for this film to have been continued and not revamped in the form of Dracula Untold or any of the other monster movies, with the exception of The Mummy of course. Also, I just want to point out that this one scene, with the operatic music, the acrobats hanging on the ceilings, the dancers, and just the overall aesthetic of this one scene made me want to literally run and hide in my room because it was so creepy, which means it was done right, and not overly done at all. Which is just perfect and I love every moment of it.

They need to stop relying on CGI and go back to practical effects to make it more realistic.
@chooseyourpoison51056 жыл бұрын
Yes, but the bottom line is that practical effects cost more, and studios aren't prepared to spend millions on special effects when they can simulate them with CGI. You have a good point, but as today's studios are interested in pleasing the shareholders rather than the audience, it's not likely to happen any time soon.
