CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Jack (Kurt Russell) and his crew chase down Jackson (James Spader) who has been taken for a ride by an alien creature.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
This lucrative, elephantine-budgeted sci-fi opus paved the way for director Roland Emmerich's mega-hit Independence Day (1996). The story commences in Giza, Egypt, circa 1928, where an archaeological expedition unearths an ancient ring with cryptic hieroglyphs. The film then moves to the present day, where Egyptologist Daniel Jackson (James Spader) is busily trying to convince a group of skeptics that the pyramids were not built by man, but by an extraterrestrial force. After the lecture, a military man approaches him and offers him a job translating the said ring; its inscriptions actually constitute a map to a massive stargate (or interstellar portal). The army sends over resident crackpot colonel Jack O'Neill (Kurt Russell) to travel through the stargate and see what's on the other side; Jackson accompanies him, and the two men turn up in a desert planet on the other side of the universe, with three moons in its sky. The world in question is ruled by Ra (Jaye Davidson), a hermaphroditic Egyptian sun god, who oppresses hordes of slave workers. Jackson and O'Neill then join forces to help the said workers revolt against their oppressor.

@RavnDream This is it. They wouldn't send you crappy stuff that'd melt. You're on a new planet, your rations are a big deal. Also product placement. Not just in the movie but the military gets used products like Coke all the time, and often times they have treated versions meant for different environments.

Mission critical equipment. He is the linguist so he needs to be able to see clearly. He's the only one with even a remote chance of understanding (reading) any symbols/writings they might discover. I would have loved to see an alternative version (gag reel) of this scene. One of the guys showing up and saying he did NOT pick up Daniel's glasses. O'Neil would be displeased, order one hundred pushups (instant punishment for stupidity) and then send the team back to find the glasses. They would be at it all night. LOL

Arguably the most exciting movie scene I ever saw in my life and it beat out a lot of competition to take that place. I saw it in the theaters, the audience was roaring in laughter at this part and having such a great time. I was sitting there going like, "Yep! This is going to be my favorite movie in the whole world for a loooonnng time." And it was.
