This was the same year that Jamie Foxx won the Oscar for 'Best Actor' for "Ray". Jamie Foxx did an incredible job as Ray Charles, but Don Cheadle deserved the award. His performance and dedication to role, to bring to life the struggles of the "refugees", who, btw, we're being refugees from they're own people/ "government". Made it so much more.

Fun fact: there was an article about this movie about a month ago and it said that this is completely misleading. Paul was actually holding the Tutsis captive and made the appearance that he was keeping them safe. When in reality he was keeping them there so that they could be exchanged with the RPF for captured Hutu soldiers. The article includes interviews from about 40 Tutsis who were held captive in his hotel.

BTW he’s had plenty of lawyers. He's never reported to court without lawyers except ONCE when one of his lawyers pretended he didn't "know" he had a court date and missed it. Anyone can see that on their own screen right here on youtube. The bizarre lie that “he is not allowed to see a lawyer” is just one of those fabrications meant to hoodwink the gullible.

Took with them all the bank reserves, vehicles, aircraft, armaments, and anything else that could be moved. Continued killing people there. He most likely assuming he survived the subsequent loss of the the war, ended up in the Congo which would be a fate worse than death for alot of Hutu's. As the Tutsi's ended up turning the genocide around and pushing the entire Hutu population into eastern Congo and in the mid 1990's it turned into a humanitarian crisis that never really got resolved during the period and spiraled into the 2 Congo wars and multiple famines/disease epidemics.

@@lockshockandbarrel4758 It's more or less why Congo and alot of central africa today is a in it's current condition today. during the 90's the congo was utterly annihilated by the first congo war combined with the refugee crsis/rebels in the east that was then made worse with a massive famine and multiple catastrophic disease outbreaks such as rampant meningitis that over ran camps on the volcanic flats. When the Zaire government was replaced by a puppet gov that new government eventually ended up with the 2nd congo war as well as multiple ebola outbreaks over the next 3 decades and endless rebel groups.

Most of this movie was pretty fake, like how they forget to include the UN soldiers guarding the hotel, the primary reason no one entered and attacked the hotel. Also evidence has come out of Paul having conversations with leaders of known terror groups which is why he was recently arrested and is currently awaiting trial for charges of supporting terrorism. He did in fact help many people by taking them in, but it was not him singlehandedly saving their lives. It was really UN peacekeepers who unfortunately had a much rougher time of things, due to the UN’s “rules of engagement”.
@TheStapleGunKid
@TheStapleGunKid 3 жыл бұрын
I really don't get the complaint about Paul having conversations with terror leaders (something the movie actually shows). Of course he did. How else was he going to keep the militia groups from slaughtering his people then by appeasing their leaders? I don't see how that counts as doing something wrong. When you are in a situation like that, you do what you have to do to save lives. If that means interacting with a bribing the leaders of the massacres, then that's what you do. As for his arrest, it seems politically motivated. Paul has been a major critic of the current Rwandan government, so it makes sense they would want to silence and discredit him.
@KrikZ32
@KrikZ32 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheStapleGunKid the terror groups thing was long after the genocide (the attacks he's been alleged to be connected to happened in 2018), and Paul actually founded the political party that the terrorist group is affiliated with. There are also many first hand reports that Paul charged the refugees money to stay, and did hand over a list of names of tutsis and what rooms they were staying in. It's kind of impossible to know the validity of any of it though, I tend to believe what the Rwandans believe over the western narrative.

The Tutsi wee already the dominant ruling ethnic group in the Kingdom of Rwanda before colonization. But the Belgians and Germans applied their pseudoscientific racial concepts which reinforced and cemented Tutsi rule, thus marking the rise of ethnic tension. Arguably, it was the European's fault.
