Tom Riddle Sr surely had some ugliness in him, but honestly, what really happened to him is terrifying. Having no idea for months or even a year of practically taken advantage of. It is so disturbing. Though it is unfortunate how much Merope was abused, what she did is unforgivable & criminal! Maybe she was desperate for attention and love but it still doesn't excuse her. She somehow reminds me a bit of Snape who was abused and bullied and then ended up becoming what he hated the most and also having one-sided love for a person, though he never did what Merope did, still, there is kind of a parallel.

There’s no shying away from the fact Merope was absolutely in the wrong. While she is to be pitied for the abuse she suffered, she is also an abuser. She forced an innocent man to fall in love with her, forced him to impregnate her and overall stole a year of his life. Merope died of a broken heart but she’s not innocent. While she did deserve better, she deserved to face consequences for what she had done. Tom Riddle Sr was regarded as snobbish and unlikeable. Yet he didn’t do anything wrong. He might have looked down on the Gaunts but his comments for that time period was light. Marvolo and Morfin were unstable and hostile. Morfin attacked Tom Riddle Sr. Then Tom Riddle Sr and his parents were later murdered by his son, a fate they didn’t deserve.

I'm glad more folks are starting to see Tom Riddle Sr. as a victim rather than a neglectful father responsible for Voldemort's lack of parental love. The dude had the misfortune to be obsessed over by a woman with a fragile mental state, drugged to love and impregnate her, then wake up with no real idea what happened until Merope explained everything. The whole experience would've been horrifying from his perspective, and his unpleasant behavior afterwards comes off strongly like PTSD (which many SA victims get).

Merope's life is so damn sad. The last sliver of life she had was too give birth to her baby. She did terrible things like the love potion and choosing to die over raising her son. But its hard to truly blame her completely for it. That’s absolutely disgusting because Merope was holding him against his will and forced him to stay with her until she got pregnant with the baby who would later become Voldemort. Normally it would be very wrong for a father to abandon his pregnant, but in this case, I would say Tom Riddle Sr was kind of in the right because he didn’t love Merope and he was forced into a relationship he didn’t want to be in or raise a child he didn’t want. On top of that, he had a girlfriend whom he was clearly very close to, and yet he failed to reconnect with her. He was an innocent victim. Regarding the question of love potions and why they are legal my head-canon (and it is ONLY that, I cannot emphasize this enough) is that there are different forms of love potion with different strengths and effects. Those sold at joke shops are at the weakest, lowest strength and thus easier to fight and undo, while the one Merope used was much, MUCH stronger. Think of it like the difference between cider and vodka (specifically Polmos Spirytus Rektyfikowany); both are alcoholic beverages but the amount of alcohol is quite different. Or perhaps this is just how messed up the Wizarding World can be at times.

The first time I read The Goblet of Fire, when they said all three Riddles were dead, I didn’t understand. I thought they meant the Tom Riddle that would become Voldemort had died and that he had faked his death. But when I read The Half Blood Prince, that’s when I realized it was Tom/Voldemort who killed his father and grandparents.

I really hate how they handle Voldemort's daughter, Delphini One of the most crucial message of the Harry Potter series is that choices make you who you are, not your blood and upbringing But Delphi's whole life story is defined by the horrible situation she was born into And there was no redemption, no kindness and no mercy for her at the end She would spend the most her life in Azakaban The better story would be Harry discoverying Voldemort and Bellatrix had a daughter Harry then decides to raise her as his own, despite her birth parents being the two people Harry hate the most in the world Delphini would be sorted in Gryffindor and Albus in Slytherin And Delphini would go on and become an auror like Harry(Albus becomes one of the best seeker in english history)

Both Merope and Tom were bad but Merope was much worse. Raping someone for about 2 years is extremely FU he didn't deserve it, no matter how much of an egoistic snob he was. Also Marvolo never deserved the honor of being part on Merope's son name. Marvolo and Morfin were insane and extremely evil people who deserved their final fates (Yes I know Morfin was falsely accused for a triple murder he didn't commit but I just couldn't feel sorry for him knowing what he did in his life).

Why did Merope never get an invite to attend a Wizarding School if she had magic? It’s not explained in the book either (to my recollection). How does the Wizarding World know who has magic or not by the time they’re 11, or if they should get an invite to attend?
