It is canon, according to Rowling, as you said. But to me, who writes AUs/sequels/crossovers to HP and PJO universes, I heavily consider canon (keep mostly everything the same except a few things that I feel would be misplaced, or which I priorly wrote fics about), except for AUs, of course. I carefully analyze everything and look back at chapters over and over again. This book is not canon compliant, thus should not be canon, and by extension, not canon to me, who wants to be an author, and reads books multiple times to see patterns.

Yes, I have so much fanfic in my head. I'm just not all that great at transferring it to the page and making it do justice. The stories are all there, they just don't translate to paper well and that's because I'm not the worlds best word Smith. But all that aside… There were some characters in the original books that could have had much bigger roles, had big hearts and could have done so much more good in the world. They were squandered opportunities, and I like to write about them. Filius Flitwick is one of my main fanfic characters that I write about. So much squandered opportunity in that character in the original books. 😞😔 Anyway, just thought I would mention it as I haven't found many fanfic writers or at least fanfic imagine is out there.

I think the thing I hate the most about this book is Harry himself. Harry is a man who's been through a lot from losing loved ones to being tortured and killed. In the end Harry is still someone who cares deeply about those he loves. He's patient, encouraged his fellow students during the DA to be better during their lessons, put himself in danger constantly to save everyone and stop Voldemort. Harry can be looked at as someone who despite all the hardships can emerge a stronger person. Harry's worse enemy is Voldemort; a wizard who uses his intelligence and power for evil. But one of Harry's best friends is Dumbledore; a wizard who uses his intelligence and power for good. The Harry Potter of this book is not any of those things. He is violent, judgemental, immature, manipulative, arrogant, and, worst of all, he's cruel. He's cruel to his friends and family and is equally nasty towards his enemies. He's even cruel to the one person he should never be to; his own son treating him just as bad as how the Dursely's treated him when he was a kid. It's disgusting to see Harry be this way to his own child. It's equally infuriating seeing him be nasty towards McGonagall and Dumbledore like trash too. This isn't Harry at all; this is what Snape always thought Harry was like; an arrogant, big headed, selfish, hotshot who loves to pick on others. Just remember the final lines in Deathly Hallows to know this book isn't canon, everyone; The scar hadn't pained him in nineteen years. *All was well.*

The most ridiculous thing about this story, in my opinion, is the moment where Snape says he is proud that Albus Severus was named after him. Now, I have nothing against Snape. I think he is actually one of the most entertaining and well-written characters in the franchise, especially in the books, where he is constantly given amusing and sarcastic moments. However, he would sooner kiss Sirius than say he is proud that James Potter's grandson carries his name. He would probably be disgusted and furious that a boy who looks like his childhood tormentor was named after him. He would likely take this as a personal insult, thinking that Harry only named his son "Albus Severus" out of pity for him. He certainly wouldn't be proud.

The scene where Harry treats McGonagall so poorly is so infuriating for me. The writers of cursed child, just happened to forget that the only time Harry successfully used the Cruciatus curse was on Amycus Carrow when he spit on McGonagall. Harry only felt respect and love towards McGonagall, and the way he treats her in cursed child is unforgivable.

As far as we know Tom Riddle never had a girlfriend or any flings or trysts that we know of during his time as a student in Hogwarts and after. I always assumed he died a virgin because despite all his charm, power and intelligence (and teenage good looks), he had too much of a narcissistic complex to the point where he probably thought nobody was worthy enough to get into his pants. And even if you want to argue that he and Bellatrix shacked up to produce a child, that also doesn't line up considering how self centered and egotistical he was. He never intended on leaving behind an heir since he expected he would live forever.

The thing that bothered me the most other than the portrayal of harry was the time travel. not only did they bring it back after all the time turners had been destroyed, but it works completely differently. in PoA, what they went back in time to do had already happened, if that makes sense. but in cursed child, they could actually change time which I hated. there are two main ways to have time travel go, and you have to pick one

in PoA, it was a closed time loop. Everything you do has already happened. So u cant change the future. But TCC created 3 different, parallel timelines which obliterated the original timeline. and time turners in PoA are just for short times, I think its established somewhere the maximum amount of hours u can go back in time without any disasterous outcome is just 5 hours. TTo use the same kind of time turner to go back years, they would have to turn it 24*365*23 times, that is, assuming they knew the exact date and time of the First Task.

@@udraj914 I would say that technically even with time loop you can change the future but it has complications. Basically, up until you have time travelled, you (time traveller) must not know the outcome of your time travel and must not know that you made any changes. Eg in PoA Harry and Hermione didn't know that they actually saved Buckbeak, Sirius and that Harry cast that Patronus charm until they time travelled and were doing these things. Likewise, if you use a PoA Time Turner to go back in time to kill someone who has done bad things (eg Voldemort or Umbridge), you the time traveller must not know that you did it until you do it. So to kill Voldemort before he rises to power, you have to travel very far back in time to the point you chose, kill him, but then you would likely have to use Polyjuice potion to take his identity and commit all the same atrocities under his name and face so one day the pre-time travel version of you hears about them and decides to go back in time to kill Voldemort. You cannot return forward in time after making the trip back in time, so you have to take the slow way and just live through the decades. Voldemort was a famous and dark wizard, so you have countless atrocities to commit in order not to diverge from the timeline. However, there are some loopholes with what you are doing. Eg, instead of killing some of Voldemort's original victims you can tell them to go away into hiding or some sort of cryosleep until a set date (but make it look like you killed them). You have to live at least up to the point when the pre-time travel version of you makes the trip. However, after you have reached that point, you would no longer have to pretend to be Voldemort and therefore can live the rest of your life in a Voldemort-free world. All those people that Voldemort would have killed but you only made it look like he killed cam now come out too. Like I said, there are complications but from a technical point, you can make changes to the future with a time-loop mode of time travel.

I think the worst character they made in the cursed Child was of Cedric. He was literally portrayed as a shitty boy having no other objective than winning a tournament and that he turned into a death eater because of that. The original Cedric wouldn't do it even if Voldemort tortured him to do it. He was perhaps the most flawless and sweetest character in the entire series, who asked for a rematch when Harry passed out because of the dementors even when they had won, was almost feeling ashamed when his father praised him in front of Harry, also asked Harry to take the cup and win the tournament. You're telling me it's the same Cedric who asked Harry to win the tournament would become a death eater because he didn't win the tournament? That's absolute bullshit. And btw, the same Harry who used the cruciatus curse on Amycus Carrow when he spat on McGonagall's face would call McGonagall "the professor"? The part after they change the second task is easily the most unrealistic. 1. Why is Snape alive, why does Neville getting killed have anything to do with Voldemort killing Snape because he thinks it will make him master of the elder wand. 2. Why does it matter if Neville is dead, sure he was a brave fighter and killed Nagini, but someone like Ron could've also killed the snake. 3. Even if all the Horcruxes were not already destroyed by the time Harry faced Voldemort in the final battle, the elder wand would've still backfired and killed Voldemort at least temporarily. You're telling me that somehow that didn't happen because of one small change. Harry could've have easily killed the snake after his final duel with Voldemort, finishing him off for good.

Headcanon ‘’The cursed child’’ is Harry’s nightmare… literary. The whole Voldemort being Bellatrix's baby daddy could've being solve by a simple change. You could have Voldemort go full God complex and actually try to create life, his personal way of symbolically put himself above the Big Guy Upstairs. Instead of Delphi being born a human witch "the traditional way" she could have being a type of magical homunculus made whith some f'ck up dark magic with Bellatrix "eggs" as the base for the experiment. Making Voldy a dark version of God, Bellatrix a dark version of the virgin and Delphi a dark version of Jesus.

Also, I don't think Voldemort would be able to have biological offspring simply because his body is more of a creation of darkest magic at that point than biology. His new body is made with Harry's blood, Tom Riddle Senior's bone, Wormtail's hand, Voldemort's infant rudimentary body and lots of dark magic. The rudimentary body was made with also dark magic after meeting incorporeal Voldemort and Wormtail meet Bertha Jorkins. There doesn't seem enough conventional life in his body to be able to contribute to creation of new life. It is mostly made of dark magic in flesh at that point. Voldemort was planning to live forever, so quite possibly his new body doesn't age. It will not produce viable gametes even if Voldemort wants to reproduce. He probably doesn't have a heartbeat because his blood is pumped around his body with magic at a uniform rate. His body is not dead, but not really properly living either. Some sort of un-life.

Cursed Child Ron is definitely based off of the doofus movie Ron. All they really had to do was have him be close with George to explain it as him stepping up to be there for his brother. I like the idea, but they did Ron dirty like they always do.

I had to put the book down for a week after that point just to try to wrap my head around it. And it wasn’t even the worst part!

@@redstonerocker I think they were trying to introduce the whimsy of the original Harry Potter into their book this way. I actually liked the Trolley Witch scene. It was the one single thing I found amusing in the whole trash of this book. Regarding her being some sort of a monster under a human skin - I assume she is benevolent because Dumbledoor would not have allowed her to keep her job otherwise. I kind of assumed she is there mostly to secretly protect the children from external threats on their way to Hogwarts, whereas her showing part of her form to Albus and Scorpius was because they were standing on the roof of a train, which is super dangerous and she thought she could just scare them into obedience to get back into the cabin.

I struggled through the book. The writing is all over the place, i couldn't make head nor tale of the plot and the characters i took a dislike to. In all, the writing was so bad i just didn't care! I have read many better fanfics!

Fun fact: The theater that the play premiered in had a long standing tradition to leave one seat in the back empty to appease supposed ghosts. They ended up selling it due to the immense popularity of the series. So I can only assume the series was cursed from then on.

I don't think any potterhead will except this book as canon, no matter what JKR says, it's a disgustingly good example of a cheap cash grab. It makes 0 sense, breaks every rule it set years ago, and ruins some of our favourite characters. It shouldn't be considered canon for the same reasons as the films. It's unfaithful to source material. Burn it with Fiendfyre.

I mean... Cursed Child is one of the proofs that the less JKR is involved with the story, the worse it gets. Sure JKR may not be consistent and retcons stuff. But from the experiences with Jack Thorne, Steve Kloves or David Yates- I have less expectations on an official HP story written by people outside. It feels like out of all the non-JKR people who handled Potterverse, the only one who nailed the HP style was Chris Columbus.

You can’t exclude the person that created the characters, no matter how many bad decisions they make. If you want to adapt their work they have to be included. Otherwise, it’s just other people stealing characters, they had no hand in creating. Fanfiction is different, because a lot of people aren’t trying to monetize it, but unless these things are in the public domain, they are not free to use without the creator.
