Land of Mine is a Danish-German historical drama film directed by Martin Zandvliet. It was shown in the Platform section of the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival and was selected as the Danish submission for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 89th Academy Awards. In December 2016, it made the shortlist of nine films to be considered for a nomination at the 89th Academy Awards.
The film is inspired by real events and tells the story of German POWs sent to clear mines in Denmark after World War II. It is believed that more than 2,000 German soldiers were forced to remove mines, and nearly half of them lost their lives or limbs.
This intense and hard hitting film centres around a young group of German POWs are made the enemy of a nation, where they are now forced to dig up 2 million land-mines with their bare hands.
We spoke to Roland Moller and Director Martin Zandvliet during the Toronto International Film Festival in 2015.
The film is finally getting it's theatrical release on February 24th, 2017.
Interview is conducted by Emma Bandame.
