1917 is getting a ton of attention and for very good reason.
It's an 2019 epic war film directed and produced by Sam Mendes, who wrote the screenplay with Krysty Wilson-Cairns. The film stars George MacKay, Dean-Charles Chapman, Mark Strong, Andrew Scott, Richard Madden, Claire Duburcq, with Colin Firth, and Benedict Cumberbatch. The film is based in part on an account told to Mendes by his paternal grandfather, Alfred Mendes, and it chronicles the story of two young British soldiers at the height of WWI during Spring 1917 who have been given a mission to deliver a message which will warn of an ambush during one of the skirmishes soon after the German retreat to the Hindenburg Line during Operation Alberich.
1917 hits select theatres on December 25th and opens wider on January 10th

I left the cinema in awe. The emotions the film evokes are so strong they stick with you for days after! George is a great actor, almost old-fashioned, he looks like a real WW1 soldier!

That's what I thought when I saw it. He has that laconic look of someone who grew up from a life of manual labor, which is the likeliest background of a WWI soldier. Simple farm family or someone who worked in a factory, on the coattails of the Industrial Revolution and Victorian Age. Used to taking orders, keeping his head down, stiff upper lip.

George McKay blew me away. On screen he looks just like my 30 year old son that passed away on June 4, 2019. I was spellbound just watching the trailer over and over. I will be watching the movie this weekend. As a sidenote... The story was based on an event that took place on April 6, 1917. April 6 was my son's birthday! and over again.

There is no other way for me to describe this film other than a masterpiece, I cannot relate to her more about never being able to keep quiet about it.

Bonnie Laufer Krebs I could tell because it is my favorite movie and I would ask the same questions! I see so many interviews where they always ask the same questions and it seems like most of them haven’t even seen the film. I’m sure the actors appreciated hearing questions from a real fan of the movie 👏🏼

I saw this film for a history class trip and I was blown away! The actors are amazing, the set pieces are awesome, the music is astounding (I HAD to download the score!), the story is simple yet beautiful and so real; the movie as a whole was just incredible. Well done to all who were apart of it. It will forever be one of my favourite movies. PS, I laughed so much when Benedict Cucumber showed up because I didn't know he would be in it. PPS, I realized I typed Cucumber instead of Cumberbatch. 🤣
