Good list. Very useful. On top of the fact that 4k is region free, its also worth noting that very often releases in another country are just the English discs put into a foreign case. For example I bought the German version of the Lord of the Rings extended trilogy and it contains exactly the same discs as the UK version. They just replaced the sleeve with a German language one.

@timonsteup28774 жыл бұрын
That is a pretty certain "No". 4K is already at such a high resolution that you need to sit very close to the screen to see individual pixels. Since 4K already supports HDR and high def sound formats, this is as close to the theatrical experience you will probably get. So in a sense, we are in the endgame. There are hardly any improvements possible at this point, because what we have is already at the professional level. I do not believe that 8K will ever be a format for movies. As for gaming, that is a whole different story but we are not concerned about that here.

Hi Adam regarding your comment on audio for 4K what you said is true but there has been at least one exception and that is the recent release of Midway. Here in Canada it is only available in a 5.1 DTS-HDMA but I looked at the US and the UK and they are both in Atmos. About the support from smaller studio's: Today Criterion announced to release The Elephant Man this September. However, still no 4k, even though the movie was released on 4k in the U.K., Germany and France two months ago and will be released on 4k in Australia tomorrow. The 4k version of this movie is already done and for sale in several countries, so there's absolutely no reason at all to stick to Blu-ray. Criterion aks a premium prices for their releases and still we don't get a 4k Blu-ray. Looking at the price of some 4k releases Criterion releases are just way overpriced. I don't know why they're being so stubborn, but to me they've become the laughing stock of the smaller labels. For these companies it's about selling as much as possible, but selling something unique in the best possible quality and best packaging for those collectors who really care about this stuff. If that's what your company is all about, how can you not jump into 4k? Anyway, I'm from Europe, so I already own The Elephant Man since the day it was released in the U.K., so I wasn't going to buy a U.S. release of the movie anyway, but still wanted to tell my opinion about Criterion. It's a fantastic movie and it's ridiculous the U.S. still doesn't have a Blu-ray release of this movie. Now they're finally getting one, but still no 4k.
