Playboy Larry Blendon (Damian O'Flynn) introduces his grandmother Stella Blendon (Clara Blandick) to his fiancée, radio singer Virginia Berneaux (Ramsay Ames). Despite Larry's record of broken romances and divorces, Virginia decides she will marry him. Virginia is slain that night and Blandon telephones his friend Philo Vance (William Wright) to help find the killer. Even as they talk, the killer strikes again and Philo hears Larry fall dead.

I wish there was a different version of this film, where Barbara Stanwych played virginia, and not only did she not get murdered, but also went on to help Philo Vance solve the crime. And I'd change the killer, as well.

Who were the writers on this project? Did they even know how to write an interestng mystery story? The lucky ones were murdered within the first ten minutes. Granny was sweet keeping photos of sonny boy's exwifes displayed on the wall. And she was not distrought over any of the murders - not even her grandson's. She just sat there showing no emotion.
