In a quiet Vermont town, a dead man named Harry Worp is discovered in a meadow, setting off a bizarre chain of events. Captain Albert Wiles believes he accidentally killed Harry while hunting and resolves to hide the body, only to find himself entangled with a curious group of townsfolk. Spinster Ivy Gravely promises to keep his secret, young mother Jennifer Rogers is oddly pleased by Harry’s death, and eccentric artist Sam Marlowe becomes both confidant and accomplice. As the day unfolds, unexpected truths emerge, throwing doubt on who-or what-caused Harry’s demise. Together, the unlikely quartet must navigate love, secrets, and the looming threat of discovery by the local deputy sheriff.
