How right you are! So tragic that her mother allowed this to happen & makes me ill to think a mother would allow this but I realize it happens, even today! Sandra Dee had everything but yet, had nothing, because inside this poor young girl was destroyed by her stepfather molesting her! May God Rest Her Soul! May she find the peace finally in death that she could never find in life! Five yrs old to be molested, is absolutely inconceivable!!!! Her mother , allowing her poor sweet baby girl to be molested, sleeping between them in the bed, fills me w/ revulsion & horror.... furious anger too that how could any mother allow this, turning a blind eye to this. I feel she is equally to blame, as her illustrious, perverted, stepfather! Poor Sandra Dee had no one to protect her or watch out for her. Such a courageous, extraordinary woman!❤️

Sandra had such a tragic life, and she deserved much better. In a time where abuse, depression, eating disorders and alcoholism were not discussed, she must have felt that she had nowhere to turn. I'm sure this kind of thing has happened and continues to happen more than we know. People looked the other way, and apart from Sandra's stepfather, her mother Mary was the most guilty in the situation. Their relationship was extremely complicated. Mary made Sandra dependant on her for everything. Sandra had no clue what it was to have a normal life, and she never really experienced the teenage rites, like dating, which makes it all the more sad that she never found love again after Bobby Darin.

I remember when I was a child in grammar school I loved the Gidgett song by Jimmy Darren. I used to see pictures of her all over the magazine and tabloid shelves at the grocery store . I bought one of the magazines with a large picture of just her face . I was living in a very toxic family environment and I was not a happy child to say the least. I stared at Sandra Dee’s large picture of just her face and all I saw was her beautiful but so so sad eyes. It so resonated with me bc I had that same sadness within me . It is so ironic bc I was a molestation victim also in my home and didn’t even know how to tell anyone or who would even listen to me. My heart went out to her when I heard her story. We never really get completely over it. I went no contact from my family of origin over 20 years ago. Rip Sandra. I hope u are resting in God’s presence. You were such a sweet soul. I was born in 1954 and grew up watching all her movies - she seemed to be the most adorable, charming All American Girl. I think she actually had potential as a serious dramatic actress but was completely typecast by the Hollywood studio system who pigeonholed her into the Tammy pictures and Gidget. I wish her true talents were used by the film industry and if she had been given serious dramatic roles she would have truly flourished in her career. Now that she has revealed the source of her alcoholism, depression and mental health issues - I have complete compassion for her. As a child and teen I thought Bobby Darin and Sandra Dee were the "Charmed Couple" they clearly loved each other so much and it was a real tragedy about their divorce and his death at such an early age. THeir son is the spitting image of Bobby Darin and looks so much like his dad! I remember when she went on the Mike Douglas show in the late 1960s and she spoke about being sexually abused as a child and how she was basically the Cash Cow financially supporting her parents as a child star.

How tragic! As a young girl, I really admired her and enjoyed her films. So sad that the life behind the lovely face was so dysfunctional. Her glamour made her an idol in our young minds. We envied her and wished we were Sandra. Tough to digest when the truth came out.

Always loved Sandra Dee for the sweet person she was, She had such promise for a wonderful life. I am so sorry all this happened to her and hope she is at peace with Bobbie Darin.
