You need to do more research before you upload. The reason why films were more clean before the 70's is because there was literally a code of what you cannot show in your films called the Hayes Code. It was written by William Hayes, uphelad by the production studios, and lasted from 1934-1968. It forbid you from showing an unmarried couple in bed, , kisses that lasted longer than 10 seconds, showing sympathy to someone committing a crime, and gay people. If you look before the Hayes code you can see films that were violent, sex filled, and featured LGBTQ+ characters but after the code those films were not being made by the production houses. Glossing over this as just "American audiences were too clean and it was taboo" ignores the actual history and the filmmakers like Alfred Hitchcock who notrosiously went to war with the Hayes code. (Also just some perspective, Taxi Driver came out 8 years after the hayes code ended)

Thanks for the insight, it was my first time making a video like this so I know there's a lot of room for improvement and I will make sure to be more thorough for the next one.

I can’t tell if it’s your mic or the way you speak, but it’s difficult to hear/catch everything you’re saying. But I agree! I still treat myself to the theater, more often than not often I’m the only one in there lol

I think that your criticism is valid, but only for big chain cinemas. I would say that this is the same as it ever was, theres always been shitty slop films, and there always will be and people tend to forget that. If anything, I would argue that streaming does good at promoting these indie films: a perfect example would be 2024's 'The Substance', one of the best executed horror films I have ever seen. The Substance was basically bankrolled by streaming service Mubi, to actually be able to bring it to life, but The Substance isn't for everyone. To a certain extent- not everyone wants to watch films to cry at, to change their lives, some people want slop - hell, even I love a bit of slop sometimes - and that's okay. I think that while there will always be ultimately meaningless and shitty cinema, that's what makes the best films in a year stand out. Like hell, in 2024 we got: Nosferatu, a new Wallace and Gromit, Alien: Romulus, Longlegs, The Substance, I Saw the TV Glow and Dune: Part 2 - like shit, that is quite a lot of good films (and thats only the ones I've watched).

Oh also forgot to mention, SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL SMALL CINEMAS!!!! I am very lucky to have a small cinema near where I live and it's amazing, they show fairly niche stuff AND its only like £5/$6 for a student/over 60/under 25 ticket.

eh, big movies are just saturated. there will continue to be demand for good and emotionally important films every single year. just recently watched the late 2024 film, the brutalist. 10/10

Thank you for speaking what I was thinking. These evil companies just want money and you can tell when you watch a movie that real dedication and emotion is put into it
