I like the movie when I was younger, but now that I am older, and I know the true story; I have reservations about it. In the movie pharaoh has a personal grudge of the God of Israel taking his brother away, and an obsession of not being the weak link. In the true story Pharoah had no connection to Moses whatsoever and his heart was against Israel because he believed that the "gods" of Egypt were more powerful than the God of Israel. In the actual story Moses runs away because the pharaoh wants him dead for killing a guard not because he found out he was a slave. Aaron was Moses' messenger to the Israelites and to pharaoh, not one of his antagonisers.

Sardonicus Getting too religious in yt comments section never ends well but there’s more to the story than that. The deaths weren’t about god killing all the egyptian first borns out of revenge or spite. The whole 10 plague charade was about getting the pharaoh (everyone involved really) to recognize the hebrew god is the real og and he wants his people to gtfo of egypt. So it was more like a game of chicken. Pharaoh could’ve decreed everyone do the blood on their doorpost thing like the hebrews were doing and nobody would’ve died. But that woulda meant admitting he was wrong, releasing all that -free- cheap labor, and taken an L from slaves and their god. Remember pharaoh (and consequently his heir/first born) is the son of ra, he’s not supposed to take Ls when people challenge his divinity. So he was like nah, then shit hit the fan for whoever didn’t follow instructions because they incorrectly thought the god of the slaves was a pushover.

Though I"m not much of a religious person, this is one of my favorite musical movies. It was also the first movie I ever MEF'd, but the video wasn't quite the quality I would have liked, so I deleted it a few months later. I thought Easter weekend would be a great time to re-do it and make it the way I think a MEF video should be. I hope y'all enjoy it! Now I'm gonna go eat some more ham.

The real question is why God didnt just free the hebrews himself instead of having a man do it and thus resulting in countless years of suffering and death, and then more death as a result of the plauge...also..where was God at when the Egyptians were throwing hebrew babies into the nile?

I don't know if you know about Joseph but he was an enslaved Hebrew who God blessed and later became a great leader in Egypt. This allowed for many other Hebrews to enter into Egypt as well. However, overtime they got too comfortable with the Egyptians and turned to their gods forgetting about God. Jesus has always been a very jealous god. He demands obedience and hates sharing your foremost attention and worship with anything/anyone else. And so after Joseph and his son's died he decided that he needed to do something to get his people's undivided attention once more. So he allowed for them to be enslaved. And it worked. They had nowhere else to turn to but to him. Of course he couldn't just set them free. How unoriginal and uninspiring. He had to do something epic that would be remembered by the world. Imagine if he had just killed all the Egyptian with a famine or disease in one night. People wouldn't believe it was the hand of God but merely a coincidence. However a month long series of unfortunate events followed by the death of all first born Egyptians including their animals. Hundreds of years later the story of Moses is still told as a reminder not to fuck with God's anointed (even if he himself allowed it to happen in the first place ).
