What a crap storyline... Sounds like a 4 year old wrote it. Seriously, she had to break her nose to not smell pheromones? Instead of just holding her breath? lmaooo

They talk about this in the movie. They say holding your breath would not do enough to sever the nerve. She has to actually physically sever the nerve which is why she has to physically damage herself. She tries to get Dreykov to punch her, but he is too weak to break the nerve. Hope this helped :)

Still makes little sense, as your nose needs air traveling through it in order to smell anything, and the nerves that control smell are seated deep in the sinuses right below the brain. Breaking your nose isn't going to simply 'sever' all of those nerves, nor would severing the nerves stop a chemical reaction from occurring. Holding your breath would be far superior at stopping anything due to you inhaling it... Or, I dunno. A mask? A gas mask? A thing that pinches your nose? I will have to see the movie to see if they covered their tracks on this one, but I doubt it... breaking your nose to stop yourself from picking up pheromones is a ridiculous idea.
