So true! Usually when these kinds of scandals happen it kind of ruins the stuff they've worked on before... i.e. watching House of Cards feels weird now after the Kevin Spacey revelations. But that scene is ten times better now than it was then, can't help but bust out laughing every time.

The guy with the glasses was Milton in Office Space. He was the guy who constantly mumbled to himself and wanted the red stapler. Fran was played by Missy Pyle, who usually has an odd look, but has been in a LOT of things. She's the main female alien in Galaxy Quest, and the mother of one of the kids in the johnny Depp version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

28:00 funnily enough, the original ending of this film had Dwight winning the game in regulation. The ending tested bad in screening so the film company required them to rewrite it so that the Joe's would win. A subtle nod to that decision can be found in the scene where Peter receives his betting earnings, the chest containing the cash has the phrase "Deus ex Machina" to point out the forced ending the movie had to make.

8:25 "Squaw" is just the word for a Native American Indian woman. (He's continuing with the metaphor that he began by calling his employees a "tribe.") However, as with many similar words, over the past few decades it has acquired offensive overtones.
@BDogg2023
@BDogg2023 9 ай бұрын
Yeah, offensive overtones is putting it mildly. Some equate it to the N word for female Indians. Excuse me, Native Americans. I got a horrified look from the cashier at a deli about ten years ago when I asked for it by name. But, it is literally the Algonkin tribe’s word for “woman.” My great grandmother was Sioux, btw. Anyway. Growing up, Squaw Bread was my favorite. It’s a sweet brown bread, made with molasses, honey, brown sugar, raisins, and butter all liquified together and added to the rye/wheat flour. You can find it in stores now called “sweet brown” bread, or something along those lines.
@bwsinfonia13
@bwsinfonia13 Ай бұрын
@@BDogg2023so can I ask, if the person who was offended would be classified as a white woman? They tend to be behind changing what I always thought was appreciating a culture into appropriating culture… not talking like black face but hey that tribal print is cool, and wearing it, but not like rocking a headdress and doing a native chant. Miss is the word to describe unmarried, widowed, and single females. Mrs is an abbreviation for the word Mistress. Which is used for Married women. It is the feminine version for Mr (Mister/Master). These are old English words that dates WAY back. It was in the olden times where there was the "Master" of the house and his wife the "Mistress" of the house. Which means they was in charge of the whole household. The word "Squaw" is a word to describe women of thr Northern American Native American Indians. It was often used as a demeaning slanderous slur to describe the Native Indian woman.

Cheerleading is actually a really intensive thing, equal to any high-impact sport But due to lobbying by a cheerleading supplies company, it's not legally classified as a sport, meaning that it's not held to the same stringent health and safety rules. Which means that, when cheerleaders inevitably get injured due to lax safety at competitions, they can't sue for compensation. It's actually very horrible.

Sqaw mean woman in the Algonquin language family. Algonquin speaking Indians lived in the Northeast of the United states and where among some of the first Native Americans that the European settlers encountered. Because of this many Algonquin words entered US English as loan words or even as slang. In fact Algonquin contributed more loan words to English than any other family of native American languages. Sqaw came to be a slang term for wife in American English Other word borrowed from Algonquin Include Tomahawk (a type of Axe), Moccasin(for soft foot coverings), pecan, hickory, squash (all foods). And many more. The north eastern part of the US has a very interesting linguistic history as later immigrants from places like Italy, the Caribbean and Eastern Eiurppe(particularly Yiddish speaking jews) also brought words into the local lexicon

Ummm... there was a few things in there. I wasn't sure if you were questioning the use of Mrs./ms./mz. You speak English so well, I would've figured you knew this, but just in case, and not to be insulting, but missus or abbreviated as Mrs., is sort of like English short hand for "mistress", and is a formal way used to refer to a married woman, and miss/ms. is used to refer to an unmarried woman, like madame/mademoiselle, maybe. The mizz/mz. thing came out of the feminist movement and was used, maybe as far back as the 50s, but was popular in the 70s and 80s in America, I think. I think the concept was that like "Mr." for men, it didn't imply any marital status, and was generally used by women in a professional setting to avoid that being a consideration. I'm not sure it's used very much anymore, though. "Squaw" is a term to imply a Native American woman or wife. In reality, there were hundreds of different separate Native American tribes each with their own languages and cultures, that just get lumped in to one group now. Squaw might've actually been applicable to one of them, maybe, but my guess is that it just became popularized as a term in old literature, movies, and TV. "Thunk" is sometimes used as a past tense of "think", but is not proper English, and is usually used by people that improperly speak English, or to be funny by intentionally speaking improper English, but the proper past tense of think in English is "thought". The "Donde esta la biblioteca", is a joke to reference that for most people that learned a foreign language in American schools, I guess as a means of teaching you vocabulary, you were often taught how to say expressions like that, even though they weren't usually very practical statements that you might often need to use in regular conversation.

The man in the wheelchair is the late Rip Torn. You see him in the Men In Black movie and Down Periscope. I think that you would enjoy watching Down Periscope. A very funny movie.

I just subbed after binge watching 201 of your viceos. does commenting on older videos help with the algorithm for you? Reasons i subbed: Your natrual reactions. Your accent (it's so unique, even to a brit). Your humour is spot on! and your editors do a great job as well! I don't bother with other reactors. Keep up the good work. Your Game of thrones series was amazing! being some one that watched it as it was released.

The DVD commentary for this movie is CRAZY. Stiller and Vaughn come off as pompous a$$holes and they insult the director until he walks out on the recording. Then, Vaughn - who is drinking beer the whole time - threatens to beat up the recording engineer for messing with his headphone volume. I couldn't tell if it was real or SUPER convincing performance art. I haven't cared much for Vince Vaughn since then. He has always been a terrible actor. Ben Stiller is at least much more talented and has made a lot more enjoyable material.

Just encase you don't know Ben Stiller's actual wife was in this movie but I'll let you figure it out on your own, also the word Squaw is now a trigger word because it has negative connotations associated to it for especially Native American Peoples in the US and Canada now, it may have derived from the Algonquian peoples from the Great Lakes region of the US/Canada which meant woman or child bearing woman but now seen as a slur by indigenous tribes in N. America now days.

Oh you’ve seen Gordon. The actor who plays Gordon, Stephen Root, plays many rolls but he has surprising range, from being an eccentric business mogul back in his News Radio days to his more recent roll as a deep black ops mover in Barry. But he is always rather comically jovial.

8:29 It's a slur against indigenous North Americans, specifically women. It originally meant woman in some of the indigenous languages of a particular region, but colonials began using it to refer to any/all indigenous women, and by the late 1800s/early 1900s it had picked up sexual connotations and implications. While indigenous people have been pushing back against the use of the term for some time now, it's only begun to be removed from government language and place names in the US in the last couple of years or so.

Ms. means undisclosed marital status (unlike miss or mrs.). Just like Mr. but for women. Squaw is a Native American wife. It's a little difficult to explain the contect here, but it's a meant to frame her in a position of submissiveness.

27:13 In the original ending, Average Joe's loses. End of movie. The ending we get is because test audiences didn't like it, so they had to shoot a "happy" ending. Ben Stiller, as a fat White Goodman, basically says as much in the credits scene.

@18:07 yes unicorns would definitely scare me off... but still preferable to ceramic cherubs. @22:10 "thunk" is the past tense of think but only in intentionally comically horrible English.

If no one has explained, "squaw" refers to a native American female, when White is talking about her joining his "tribe", making the native American reference.

The key to the success of this movie is that, despite its "happy ending," it remained true to itself throughout.
