Leia doesn't tell Han because she's still processing the thunderbolt revelation that Luke had just dumped in her lap - learning that she not only has a brother, and that her worst enemy is also her father, but also that Luke could die, or worse - fall to the dark side and become like Vader.

This is a really rare reaction. Every one I've seen has watched the special editions with all of George's tinkering over the years, but this original version will always be the best to me. Vader's silent betrayal of the Emperor has always held more impact than adding dialog to the later versions.
@Fangtorn Жыл бұрын
Hundred percent agree on a silent Vader being more impactful. There's a story that in the first movie, when Luke finds Uncle Owen and Aunt Peru's bodies, Mark Hamil's first instinct was to give a really dramatic, emotional reaction, but Lucas told him to tone it down into the more understated performance so the audience can project their own emotions onto him. I think similar thing happens with silent Vader, we're just seeing a mask turn back and forth, but we can intuit the conflict within him instead of being told how he feels by him yelling melodramatically.
@dongilleo9743 Жыл бұрын
Couldn't agree more with your assessments. Having Vader telegraph his turning on the Emperor by saying "No" is the one unforgivable change Lucas made in my opinion. The scene with Vader turning on the Emperor, coming to the aid of his son, is my most cherished movie moment ever. When I first saw this movie in a packed theater decades ago when it had just came out, the reaction of the audience was the most spectacular I've ever experienced. Everyone was dead quiet, and then when Vader acted, there was a unified explosion of joyful cheers, screaming, and clapping I've never seen happen in any other movie.

Same thoughts. I don't know who told them to watch the original and how they found it but really happy they didn't have to sit through all that digital crap Lucas added later! It wasn't originally planned for Leia to be Lukes twin sister. They were originally going to introduce another character but in the making of this movie decided they didn't have enough time to bring in another character so they went with Leia. On the other part of seeing a love triangle I never saw it the first kiss was in the middle of trying to escape I didn't see any romance between Luke and Leia then and the two kisses in the 2nd movie one was clearly to make Solo jealous and the other was out of relief that they found Luke and he was alive not a single ounce of romantic feelings were in any of those situations.

Wow, you got to watch the original 1983 version of Return of the Jedi! In 1997, Episodes 4, 5, and 6 were re-released in theaters as "Special Editions" with added special effects and new scenes. Since then, the Special Editions have been the only versions of the movies made commercially available despite fans desperately wanting official releases of the original theatrical versions on modern home media. The Special Editions have long been controversial among fans, as they felt that the changes that were made to the films were completely unnecessary, and there were concerns that such a practice would lead to a culture of rampant revisions made by finicky filmmakers constantly wanting to re-edit their movies over and over again until they no longer resembled the original work.

1. Best guess is that Han was Jabba's "trophy" for about a year and a half before the rescue. 2. Vader discovered Leia as Luke's sister because he could feel it in Luke. Luke didn't know that until just before then. 3. Luke's light saber is green because he lost his old one along with his hand so they decided to make it green because it worked better in the desert background landscape. 4. Everybody is freaking out because Luke and Leia kissed mostly because she was trying to piss off Han. They didn't know they are related. 5. The "I love you. I know" was written into the script to get Leia the shot to say it to Han. 6. This was Warrick Davis'/Lead Ewok first acting gig. He was only 13. Willow is his lead with Val Kilmer and worth a first time/share.😎 7. Awesome camera work with the race through the forest. Nobody in their right mind would go that fast. 8. A little corn. Hans' reaction to Leia telling him Luke is her brother. 9. Jedi is plural. With Luke and Leia leading the way they can reestablish the Jedi back into the galaxy. 10. Ford wanted Han to die in this episode. 11. This is the best of the original 6 George Lucas Star Wars. After this he sold it to Disney, and everything changed. Sadly May the 4th be with you.

Star Wars is like the MCU... Order of release for first time watching. Sure, some movies or series will be viewed out of chronological order but they are, as a whole, chronicles. They are made to have reveals, then show you what happened before, then skip ahead forward, then go back again. They are made that way. Trying to watch them in any other way will eventually cheat you of many surprises and twists. Once you've seen the whole, then you can go back and watch them in any order you wish.

Regarding the kiss scene between Luke and Leia; that was mostly a goof on Lucas' part because he had forgotten that moment was written. These days, it's mostly dismissed because Leia wanted to give a "F-- You" to Han by kissing someone else in front of him. At the end of The Empire Strikes Back, we learn there is a connection between Luke and Leia, and there is roughly a year's gap between ESB and ROTJ. Maybe Leia figured it out then? I don't know. EDIT To answer your question if Vader knew he had twin children, no. He spent many years in guilt ridden agony believing he had killed his wife and child before the child was born. Some time before ESB, Vader had suffered a lot of shame and humiliation for the Death Star's destruction, and he became obsessed with getting revenge on the pilot responsible. He hired Boba Fett to track him down and bring him to Vader. Due to circumstances, Fett failed, but he was able to learn the pilots' name and tell Vader; Luke Skywalker. In that moment, any thought of torturing and butchering the pilot vanished. Vader was in a mess of emotions; shock, surprise, sorrow, joy and wrath. He had been told by the Emperor that he killed his wife, but if she survived long enough to give birth, that meant the Emperor straight up lied to his face, causing the biggest source of his misery for decades. "A son..." Vader spoke softly to himself. "I have a son..." The harsh grate in his voice returned as his determination rose. "He will be mine." EDIT To answer your question the Emperor and Luke, the Emperor was baiting Luke into turning towards the Dark Side. As a Jedi, Luke would have the potential to destroy the Emperor. But if he gave into temptation and darker emotions such as anger, then the Emperor would own him, just like he owned Vader. It's about taking the most powerful threat against you and turning it into your slave. The Emperor didn't care about the rebels or their fleet, his sole focus on that moment was Luke. By making Vader stand next to him as a reminder "Hey, I'm the one who took your dad away and turned him into a monster," while watching his friends die by the thousands, the Emperor was trying to goad Luke into turning to the Dark Side, thereby forever extinguishing the Jedi from the galaxy forever. EDIT Good Lord, last one. There's two reasons why Vader died. Without giving too much away, he suffered severe traumatic injuries that forced him to wear a suit to live. The sound he makes is the suit breathing for him because his lungs were severely damaged. In the past, when his suit was damaged, Vader relied on the Dark Side to keep him alive until the suit was repaired. So when he saved Luke, he rejected the Dark Side, and when the Emperor's lightning destroyed the respirator system in the suit, that pretty much sealed his fate. But it gave him enough time to share some words with his son and become one with the Force.

Boba Fett learned that the pilot’s name who destroyed the Death Star was Skywalker and he reported that to Vader. There’s comics about it. Vader was pissed and he’s playing dumb and tries to act a little surprised in Empire Strikes Back when The Emperor says that he has no doubt that Luke is Anakin’s son.

This is not the edits George Lucas put in in the 3 pack sale. The ending especially is so much better in the edited version as can see how big scale the empire ending and the Gslaxy celebrating was and the actor that played his father was replaced. To each their own i enjoy the edited version much better.

Watching the prequels before the OT is insane. Always watch in release order. The prequels were made with the idea that people have seen the OT.

If you were at th eright age to see this in the theaters when you were between the ages of 10-12 Luke Skywalker doing the flip out of the Sarlac Pit was the single most exciting thing that had ever happened!

Wicket, the Ewok that found Leia, was portrayed by 11-year-old Warwick Davis. He has had quite a career, thanks mostly to George Lucas.

Good job watching the ORIGINAL version. Love the old Ewok song and the Jabba Palace without the 1997 CG junk added.

Btw, when you watch the "prequels" and are introduced to the young Anakin Skywalker..go back and watch the version of "Return" with the George Lucas changes in the "Special Editions" he re-released after the prequels....it'll all come together.

The Mandalorian TV show is set just after episode 6. So technically you could watch that next!

There is a deleted scene at the beginning of this film or Luke stops at Ben's old place and builds a new lightsaber.

I was in the theater for episode 4 in 1977, and I would've suggested that first! And it's no longer a love triangle in episode 6!

Fun fact, Vader's suit was built specifically by the Emperor to be weak to his lightning. That way in case Vader ever did turn against him, it would be one more ace up the Emperor's sleeve.

I was wondering when you guys were going to finally finish this trilogy. I see you guys got the Despecialized Edition =)

I had forgotten about the original ending, I was 11 when it came out in theaters. Other reactors show the young Anakin ending, this was cool

Very little movie time has passed. Lando and Chewy were on their way to "the sand planet" to rescue Han at the end of the last movie.
@ashuradragosani5960 Жыл бұрын
They left to look for Han, they had no clue as of yet, as Lando stated 'when we find Han, we'll let you know'. I believe the official timeline placed it about a year later.
@acecombatter6620 Жыл бұрын
@@ashuradragosani5960 they knew the bounty hunter took him. They knew Jaba placed the bounty and they left to go to Tatooine. I don't know about any official timeline. But they had plenty of clues.
You watched the un-canon version of Episode VI. Good for many but it's not right. Hope 20th Century Fox sees this!

So glad you found the original edition for this one. George Lucas actually damaged his story when he went back and altered it. I'm also glad you watched the trilogy in release order and not the machete order or chapter order. Too many story building elements are lost when watching via a different order for first time viewers.

Definitely my favorite out of the trilogy. Had a blast with your reaction :D

I grew up on the 2004 dvd release of 1-6, which is the best version of this film in my opinion. It has all of the updates and improvements to the effects and the finale song that's way better, but doesn't have the stupid "NOOOOOO" added when Vader saves Luke. Unfortunately has the awful song in jabba's palace, but it's worth the other changes to me
@movieswithmom Жыл бұрын
That makes a lot of sense. I imagine people wouldn't complain about some sort of hybrid which includes the best of both versions.

49:20 - I was surprised that this was the original version of the movie, whereas later versions show Hayden Christensen playing Vader/Anakin's ghost.
