moving a chicken coop with a John Deere 2025R tractor

Here is a video of us moving a chicken coop out of the barn and into position. We built it in the barn due to ease of building on a level floor and for weather reasons. We used a 25 hp tractor, chains, and pallet forks. We pulled using the loader because it allowed us to lift the front end up a little to avoid rocks and stumps. The shed was built on skids. We waited to put the doors, windows, and metal roof on so that they wouldn't be damaged.

How do you like this tractor? I’m looking between the 1025 and the 2025, the dealer said that only difference is the 2025 is bigger, other than that there the same. Do you find the rear pto to be under powered since you would need a wider implement on the back of the 2025 compared to the 1025.

Yes, I believe that the 1025 and 2025 are mechanically more or less identical and the 2025 is on a larger frame. When I bought mine, they were running incentives on the 2 series that brought it within $750 of the 1 series. I do not regret the 2 series and I'll tell you why... My neighbor has a 1 series and the smaller frame does not allow you to lift implements as high as my tractor. He says this has become a problem on hills, especially with his york rake. Overall, he seems to be impressed (jealous?) of what my tractor can do compared to his, even though they are the same mechanics. I put 10 hours on my tractor over the past two days pulling a 6 foot york rake on a steep field and been fine. I do not use a ground engaging implement with my rear PTO, so I can't speak to how well it will handle a tiller, etc. I do run a wood chipper off the back, and the extra weight/lift of the larger frame do handle it much better than the smaller kubota it came off of. I run a front 54" snowblower off the mid PTO, and it has enough power. The two limitations I run into with this tractor is overall weight when trying to move large rocks. And, you have to take care when operating on a hill. Both of these issues would be more so with a smaller frame, so I believe you are better off with the 2 series. Tractors are like a TV: when debating between two different sizes, if your budget allows, you won't be sorry about the bigger one. Cheers

Hi Bigjoe! Yes, very much so. She's a weekend queen, so I just rolled over the 50 hours, and I've done everything from snowblowing to lifting 12 ft, 24 inch diameter oak logs onto a mill. I'd say pallet forks are a must have accesory. The limitations I've run into with the machine have to do with its light weight (lifting back tires up) rather than power. Still, you can get almost everything done by taking smaller loads.
