I'm going to look at a Glass 39 ft Endurence35. it has a new (80 hrs) 35 hp Yanmar ( valued @12k) i think its a sloop-rigged ketch, looked into mooring it at shelter island marina Richmond while I live aboard and do a complete refit. price is firm at $15,500... i just bought Don Cassey's complete illustrated sailboat maintenance manual, lol I'm already over my head... Thoughts??
@Wandersailing4 жыл бұрын
Depending of your plans, refit always take longer than expected and I would take that o in consideration buying a “project” boat. I paid top dollar for my boat and still had to spend 15 months refitting my boat full time. Leaving South with only half my checklist done. Plus 2 other smaller refit in Mexican’s boat yard which was much cheaper. Redoing it now, I would consider buying a boat in Mexico or anywhere South. Where boat has been proven to be ready for the voyage for a fraction of the price with all the really expensive equipment already installed; like water maker, single side band, solar panel, generator and etc. Hope that helps, feel free to contact me if you have any questions. I’m in Canada for the summer, I’m helping a friend in the boatyard at Shelter Island once in while and wouldn’t mind helping you checking that boat out.

Sweet, that's great. I'll have a first look and set a sea trial? Early June ish? If you're available, I'll check in with you, would be great to have some help looking it over. ( I already bought Don Casey's complete sailboat maintenance manual so... It's to late for me to turn back now. Lol

Sailing Nordic Sun For sure! Did you guys caught a lot of craw fish also?
@sailingnordicsun71995 жыл бұрын
Actually this past summer year we headed to Alaska so we didn't do much fishing for prawns. But in Northern BC we did catch a lot of bottom fish (big ones might I add) and salmon of course. I hope to get more videos up in the next few months. But as you know it takes time to put these KZbin videos together. Really liked your video. Keep on putting out those videos up so I can see what more of what your sailing is all about.

So how long did it take you guys to figure out that the boat had sails on it?
@Wandersailing5 жыл бұрын
@@patriotofgod9827 Well, there were barely any wind that day and we were lucky enough to have 3 to 4 knots tide going in the direction we wanted. Sailing Desolation was quite interesting to learn how to sail with up to 7 knots tides and shifting 25 -30 feet a some places.

Grew up outside vic and was taught not to eat shell fish like oysters clams and crabs etc during red tide cycles. I didnt and caught many Dungeness crabs and shrimps as an teen and brought them home to feed my family. Beautiful area though. Would like to bring my wife and son to sail the coast

We live in paradise that's for sure! a little tip on pulling traps. put a pulley some where on the sailboat run the rope thru and one person in the dingy holding the rope pulls away while the one watches for trap, paint rope about 10' from the end when they see it they wave or holler ! Sure saves the arms! Wow 500' is a lot of line I go for around 300'. Another way is take a piece of plywood about 3x3 put a float on it big enough to hold trap a hole thru center with a jam cleat the rope goes thru you pull with the dingy add when trap gets to top the jam cleat holds the trap you just pull the line into the dingy and the trap is setting there to pickup! just one person can do it that way. Subscribe to my channel, hope to see you out some time.

Do your research and the research shows that we have some of the last unpolluted water here in the north west pacific .I have lived 10 years on those very beaches of Texeda ,Lasqueti,Cortes,ect harvesting oysters and clams professionally and I have never seen or heard of anybody getting sick on a FRESH oyster .There must have been a "Red Tide" advisory (a natural very toxic algae bloom that comes and goes) that you ignored . If that is the case Eric could have died.

I don't think it was red tide but it definitely gave me the sh*ts for 3 days...
