The main problem is IGNORANCE. An average Nigerian can't do a basic research on any subject especially immigration rules and how they apply depending on VISA category. They take so many things at face value, and will rather prefer cutting corners than do what is right or legit. Just like in most aspects of Nigerian life from the pulpit to the pew and in politics, business and relationships. The ways are clouded in hypocrisy, lies and deceit. Most Nigerians abroad don't have any business being abroad. They can't fit in.The system is so structured that the average Nigerian mindset will rebel and want to be smart as they do back home.Changing that mindset will take generations. Excellent video.

I hardly reply to comments but your point on our lack of research skills is a major problem. I believe it is because we were not given the opportunity to develop that in our elementary and secondary years in school. We had to answer exam or test questions exactly as our teachers taught us. I left Nigeria after JSS3 and as intelligent as I was, I found it difficult to get As in my continuous assessment/exams/tests because I could not come up with original angles/ideas. Math and Science were the exceptions, but when I was asked to write why my answer was what it was, I couldn't! My 7 year old daughter answers questions like that everyday, because, 1+1 will be 2 even 10 years from now...the concept is more important at her age than the actual answer. Overtime I have developed this skill cos you have to when you live in UK. When my husband and I were still subjected to renewing various visas in UK, I would go through each section of the immigration rules that applied, and produce documents/information to support that section. My husband would roll his eyes when he sees the application form and all the documents all labelled and numbered with appendix sef (I love u, WHSmith). They've made the rules clear so make your application clear and complete. Most times, we don't need lawyers for immigration applications. Unfortunately, lawyers and agents have made money of us due to our lack of this skill.

I also decided to corroborate your point as I hardly reply to online discus. You have said it all. An average Nigerian is lazy to research and dig deep about what they re about jumping into. That's why these phoney agents keep getting fat on folks' ignorance. I keep telling people around me...the greatest thing that happened to Africa in the 21st century is the liberalisation of the internet...you can know anything you want to know or do via that medium...the internet has successfully closed a century gap between African's backwardness and the West. But still, a n average black man won't dig deep for resources to push himself outta his penury. It's sad.

Message to Nollywood... Stop misleading people in your movies. You glorify and glamorize going abroad on visitor/student visa. A couple of years later, this guy has returned home with 40 foot container load of luxury cars, and hard currency. All lies. Unless you're into something illegal, I don't know anybody who makes it that fast abroad. Meanwhile, people watch these movies and believe them. I lived in London myself, with work permit. I had to work 3 jobs to be able to save some money: early morning, full time, evening. Those are slang for 5am-7am cleaning, then full-time 8-4 at my kitchen porter job, and finally 5-7pm at evening cleaning. You leave home at 4am, and return around 9pm. That is the reality of living abroad. That is even for those with work permit. Imagine someone who is not authorized to work. Life is hard. If you somehow manage to start working, your own fellow Nigerians would be threatening to report you to immigration. You're always under a cloud of your work place being raided by immigration.

I believe where ever you find yourself always have a positive mindset and set realistic goals for yourself. We all just want to survive God will see us through.

Please don't be discouraged by all that this guy is talking about. Yes, granted that things are not as easy as they are at home. If you talk about discrimination, can an Ibo man easily get a job in Yoruba land? My only advice is, if you have something doing, like a good job, you dont have to throw away ur job or sell ur house and head to UK or anywhere else. Going by legal means is advisable because, despite all odds, the chances of success are there if u are patient and focused. Do you have student loan in Nigeria, grant, scholarship, student jobs, fair admission process, fair job placement, good internet service, career focused school programs, etc ? The answer is no. Which state or even local govt or industry in Nigeria will you just go with ID and resume or CV and get a job without one politician or top millitary officer? People have to balance stories. If the UK is that bad, why is he still there ? After all, these Oyinbos flocked to Africa first for Slavery nd then colonialism and oil exploration etc. But when our pple started going, they introduced Visa and different laws. It's not easy, but if you have genuine purpose, forget all these bogus analysis, go legal.

I just want to say thank you soooooo much on this journey of enlightenment. May you continue to be successful in this and all other good things you are doing. Today they see me as the devil for asking them to start cooking their own food, but your own food stuffs & Bill's...hell broke loose. Even the man had the impetus to tell me I am not the one accommodating them I had actually felt as highly educated as these guys...I hoped we would all be able to share things and eventually all of us build our own dreams and move on Till now, I did not regret every single statements I told them, my singular regret was not sitting them down to give my terms & conditions (never again will it happen, even my family member must get a T& C to stay share my space?

Let alone try and help those you left at home who had the same misconception as you did. This is a conversation that's hard to translate to people. You hit every nail on the head and you're the only person touching on it. Some illegals can't even go to hospital or doctor when gravely ill!! can you imagine 10 years of never seeing someone eventually it can become a chronic illness?! Trump and immigration is making it near impossible for people to travel to the U.S so it's definitely way different than it even was 2 years ago with Obama. Very great topic !!

Thank you for this video. I still don't think most people will understand. People think Americans are wealthy, but the cost of living even things for them. It's quite the sacrifice to help someone to migrate to the USA. I'm very well off, but it's nice to be appreciated.

Saying the truth Sir, i visited London with the hope of coming back, i stayed with a second counsin who advised me to stay back that she will will accommodate me and help me find a job. What struck me was during one of our discussions she told me how she packed out one of her counsins who went to London after three weeks he was still looking for a job. Nobody told me to come back after the holiday

Pls consider all sides before you leave... the system works here no doubt and I would love for everyone to experience it but in the right way or else...life becomes difficult by which time you will be stuck! Go no go.. come no come! God bless.

I've lived in the UK since the mid 90s and I can definitely say life is much better now for a lot of Nigerians. Yes there are many who are struggling due to various reasons particularly immigration issues but I will honestly there are so many successful ones as well. They have good jobs, side businesses, houses here and abroad. These are people from churches I've been too though

Great video. My family relocated to the UK from Nigeria when I was 11. Was a big shift in culture, the people, the food etc but I am grateful we did because what I have achieved now aged 29 do not think I would have achieved if I was still in Nigeria. Grateful my mom was a nurse so things were in order. A lot of people do go abroad and it can be a struggle. People back home think it’s a jackpot not in all cases and abroad requires hard work, being open minded work smart and hard. The main tip I will give is become professionally qualified doing menial jobs like cleaning, security etc will require to work so many hours to pay all the bills, living costs whereas getting a job that pays well will mean you can pay living expenses and have something left to save.

Thanks for this useful information brother. I am from Swaziland and I’ve met people from my country who tell me that if they came to the UK they would never go back home and just abscond. I also met one lady from my country who stayed here in the UK as an illegal immigrant for a few years but at the end she chose to surrender to immigration and go back home because life was hell living as an illegal immigrant. People also need to realise that companies won’t employ illegal immigrants in the UK because if immigration finds out they fine the company about £10,000 per illegal immigrant. The only alternative for illegal immigrants is to work for criminal companies that pay them below minimum wage and abuse them. I know that things might seem really bad back at home in Africa at times but life can be a lot worse here in England if you have no job. At least if you stay home in Africa you have friends and family. Over here in England it can be very lonely when you have no one or nothing.
