As always awesome video and very creative way of making a long video a bit shorter.

When I dumped all the footage I shot today into the video editor it amounted to about 1 hr 15 mins... so speeding things up considerably & omitting a bunch enabled me to compress it into a fairly short video. Thanks for watching!

EXCELLENT video! You have been so diligent about posting a video every day that I find myself looking forward to your latest one! I sure hope you are successful in ridding your bins of mites. It is obvious that you are an exceptional caregiver to your worms and the mites have been causing you some grief. I am wondering why the 2 ANC bins seem to be the ones that had the mite problems when I believe you use outside leaf materials in all your systems from time to time? As always, I am going to consider microwaving my outside leaf material before incorporating it in to my systems in the future. You should know, you are being a great mentor to many! Thank you.

Thank you for the kind words - and for recognizing my running streak of posting a new video each & every day. So far, after nearly 7 weeks of at least 1 video per day, you are thus far the 2nd person to make mention of it. I appreciate you noticing. I was wondering about why only the ANC bins exhibited an outbreak of the mites. Perhaps it was just one bad batch of leaves that happened to have a bunch of them mixed into them. I also noticed in the new, in-progress time-lapse video that I'm currently making that I added some leaves & soon thereafter the mites begin to appear. I'm paranoid now - so from now on leaves will always get sterilized prior to being used in my worm bins. Thanks for watching!

What an arduous effort! But you sticked to your guns and are now victorious. I applaud your hard work, creative problem solving ideas and above all, patience. Thanks for taking the time to still show us content. Really hard work! Can you maybe give an estimate on how long you think the whole process took, including the editing and voice overs?
@A-V3 жыл бұрын
It took far longer than I anticipated. I believe that I started around 11 o'clock in the morning. For a little while I was taking short, 5-minute breaks while waiting for the worms to dive down into the material. It was about 4:30 pm when I switched from harvesting with light to simply separating the worms from the material that they were in. I think it was around 7 pm when I got done in the wormery & had dinner. Luckily the creation of the video went fairly quick by simply throwing all the footage into the video editor, trimming it down to eliminate more than half of it, speeding it all up (some of it up to 8x speed) and then recording the narration. From start to finish the video editing and export took about 2 or 2 1/2 hours. Getting the video uploaded to KZbin, then posting it on various other social media sites, took about another 45 minutes. Start to finish I think it was about a 12 hour process. Wow! 😳

@@A-V wow! Wow! Wow! No wonder you were beginning to feel impatent. Nice work and nicely executed. But I really hope the mite problem is now something of the past. They've been bothersome to you. And where your worms always give you pleasure, this was really hard work. Truly thank you for sharing this specific journey with us from start to finish.

While i like your long-form talking vids, this short-form talk-over style is also great. It would not hurt at all if a small minority of your vids is of this short style.

I was sorta 'forced' into doing it this way due to the ridiculously huge amount of footage I had shot all day... and also because it was getting late in the day & I was too tired to stay up into the wee hours of the night to assemble the video in the way I usually do. In the end doing it this way was super-fast - and the result is much better than I expected. I appreciate the feedback; I might just take your advice and make more videos in this fashion - even if it isn't due to a massive surplus of video footage. Thanks for watching!

AV I have a few questions😁 even though I’ve been raising worms 19 years this is my first or actually my second chance with African nightcrawlers my first batch died years ago. I was told that you can’t fluff their bedding because they get stressed and lose their tails? I’m Asking because I see you moving yours around all the time and I never hear you say anything like that. I was also told When I harvest the African nightcrawlers I will lose about 75% of them because they die because of stress. Have you ever heard anything like that? I also saw MIgardener use BT spray in his garden and says that it doesn’t hurt worms. Do you think they would be an option for the mites? BT is a bacteria I think. Sorry if it’s too many questions I love your videos and I know you have a lot of experience with African nightcrawlers.😊

I can't recall observing any of the things you mentioned... but I am also suspicious that maybe these are not even ANCs. A lot of people have commented on my videos telling me that they don't like like ANCs. This might just be further evidence that they are actually some other type of worm. Nevertheless, I will continue to call them ANCs - since I don't know for sure what they are. But I will also continue to keep them separate from the rest of my worms.

I have only watched a couple of your video's so I don't know what you are doing ? Are you doing this to sell worms ? Is it the compost you are after ? Or is it something else ?
@A-V3 жыл бұрын
I was originally psyched to have nice rich worm compost to use in my gardening... but later I gained a real appreciation for the ability to prevent lots & lots of kitchen scraps from ending up in the trash and eventually in a landfill somewhere. If I am able to expand my worm population significantly, then I might consider selling worms - but presently I have just enough to work down my own household waste. I have also grown attached to the community that has grown here on this channel - and I also really enjoy editing video. So its ultimately a win, win, win from many perspectives. Thanks for watching!

What the white thing u pour after the leaf?
@A-V7 ай бұрын
Its a substance that is meant to do away with the mites. It is diatomaceous earth (DE). This goes back almost 3 years now... but if I remember correctly, this did not go as planned. The worms were unable to get through the dry layers of leaves & DE - leaving them stranded in a small pile of the material that came along with them from their old home. Thanks for watching!

@@A-V do you ever use goat.manure to feed ur anc?

I do not have access to any forms of manure - so my worms are always fed kitchen scraps... and the bedding I use is mainly paper, cardboard & leaves 👍🏻

@@A-V do you have any problem with overheat and BNFL? i using kitchen scrap, the BNFL conquer the food zone.. my ANC sitting at the side.of.the bin..
@A-V7 ай бұрын
Black soldier flies often occupy my outdoor systems - but I never consider them to be a problem. In fact, I welcome the since they are amazing composters. As for overheating, I can't recall ever encountering any problems with that - but then again, I tend to feed my systems & then not check in on them until the next time comes for them to be fed. So overheating may be happening - but if it is, then I do not know, nor do I notice any issues that it may have caused :)

Nice video 👌 So I’ve been watching your videos for a while and have been motivated to start raising worms 😄👍, once in a while in my bin all the worms clump together like a ball, why is that ? Perhaps you could help
@A-V3 жыл бұрын
Could it simply be that they have found a morsel of food that they really like? So they are just crowding around it all trying to take a bite?? Thanks for watching!
@vikramkapoor5043 жыл бұрын
@@A-V so basically checked that but there wasn’t any food amidst them but then I checked, they had devoured all the food and there was non left so perhaps that was the reason, any way I’ve added some food to the bin now
@waynetadlock97193 жыл бұрын
@@vikramkapoor504 Even if you can't see food, there may be a concentration of microbes there for the worms to feed on. If food decomposed where the worm ball is, there may well be more moisture there. If bedding is dry, worms will ball up to "share" moisture.
