The last time we moved was from Arizona to Wyoming. My husband's work paid for the move since they had required him to move. They paid for movers, overnight stays, gas, food, and transportation of our second vehicle. Having used a moving company, I will never go back. I don't care how much it costs. The stress of moving ourselves across the country once (Ohio to Arizona) was bad enough, but then seeing how amazing the process was when someone else moved all your stuff across the country just makes me more firm in my decision. Never again. Haha!

You've been around for it all! It took Izzy and hour or 2 to stop jumping in the Costco bag and try to escape through the front door, but now she's all settled and I think she prefers having a smaller space to keep an eye on us all the time 🤣
@CarinaCoffee3 жыл бұрын
Honestly the biggest thing on moving day is to keep bin bags and those big reusable shopping bags on hand, because you'll definitely find little things or have to do a last clean through, especially if you can't move in stages so you can't come back to clean or pick up the last bits and bobs.
@SpaceMakerMethod3 жыл бұрын
I wish I’d thought if that beforehand 🤪
@CarinaCoffee3 жыл бұрын
Also, I think people might think to prepare a change of clothes for moving day, but if you're a shower-after-getting-up sort of person you'll need something to put your used clothing in. For travelling I think it's normal to bring a bin bag for that (or in my case 3 since I'm a bit of a germophobe and separate out underwear and socks from the rest; I'm looking into getting cotton draw string bags that I can just add to the wash for that later to reduce plastic use) and so that's definitely something I would think of when moving, too. I'm also really big on checklists, I keep one on my phone that I always use when I go see my family/travel, I find that incredibly helpful especially for the little things like charging cables and just for ease of mind in general.

My parents moved from Holland to Turkey when I was little, so as my mum and me would move to Turkey first, they packed, sent their stuff on a train to Turkey, then downsized what was left and moved my dad into a studio where he'd stay for one last season at his job. I remember when they got their stuff from the train. My mum numbered every box and kept a detailed list of what was inside of them. At the customs, the officers had a lot of fun (!) looking at the list, opening the boxes and seeing everything was accurate. My mum must have rested for weeks.

Congrats on the move and the successful downsizing! I wanted to also ask, could we please stop using the term “expat” to describe white immigrants to other countries? Here’s a good explanation to read as to why we need to stop using that term. livewelltravelfar.com/blog/expatsandimmigrants
@SpaceMakerMethod3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! -Actually the mover/expat wasn't white, he is from the Middle East. I would argue that it's a phrase that more North Americans and Europeans use, and has nothing to do with the color of skin. Many of my friends who call themselves expats are not white. And neither is the community of foreigners here all white. It's a global community filled with all nationalities and reasons for moving here.
