Thank you Maryam for this video as it provides a lot of insight to people wanting to migrate to UK or Canada and I completely agree on most of your points except a few highlighted below; 1. Canada is not bigger than UK: Unless you are referring to land mass. UK is far bigger than Canada by population and GDP. UK has a population of c.67 million while Canada is c.38 million. The GDP of UK is $3.1 trillion and Canada is $1.9 trillion. 2. There are clear paths to citizenship in UK just that it takes longer - 5 or 10 year route. I agree Canada is better and the process is more matured than that of UK. Post Brexit, UK is trying to fix its immigration system and until that happens there are still options for people wanting to live and work in UK. The fact is because it's easier to migrate to UK people don't really think through their options before leaving Nigeria. Moving through studies (masters, PhD or first degree) is not a migration route as this gives you a Tier 4 visa. You will probably need to change to a Tier 2 visa which will provide route to permanent residency and citizenship. 3. I believe white collar jobs are also easier in UK than in Canada and this is only sensible because it's a bigger economy. As at December 2022, there were more than 1.2 million unfilled vacancies (white collar jobs) in the UK. Unemployment rate is 3.7% while Canada is 5%. However, UK needs a huge workforce to fill the employment deficit but doesn't have a commensurate migration system to address it. 4. Yes I agree with you that Canadian jobs pay higher than UK. GDP per capita - UK: $47K, Canada: $52K Data source: countryeconomy.com/countries/compare/canada/uk www150.statcan.gc.ca/n1/daily-quotidien/230106/dq230106a-eng.htm www.ons.gov.uk/employmentandlabourmarket/peoplenotinwork/unemployment In summary, it depends on your circumstances and your reasons for wanting to migrate as both countries are very good and much better than Nigeria. Good luck to all of you guys!

I lived in the UK for 8 years and live in Canada. But I have to say, Canada is way better. If your looking long term, this is the place to be. Within 2 years I got a good career Job and life has been way better than in the UK. My advice for those coming from especially Africa, try to get away from the Big crowded cities like Toronto. There are other smaller cities and towns that off3r professional jobs and the opportunities are way better. The population in most of these cities is small and aging, so there's less competition for good high paying jobs. Canada is the place to be as an immigrant right now.

@itsmaryamsalam2 жыл бұрын
Like I mentioned, this video is probably related to Nigerians with Nigerian passport. Ofcourse, with British passport you have more benefits: free Schengen area travel, no need for visa, automatic work permit with no limited hours, more work life balance….But if you are a Nigerian with just Nigerian passport in the U.K. as new immigrant, your reality is different which is probably why you may not get the hype about Canada.

Also better travelling options, more walkable towns & cities, safer roads/driving, better infrastructure & architecture, also more job & educational opportunities. Canada just has a more straight forward immigration system & gives citizenship much quicker than the UK they also are more open to immigrants which makes it a bit more attractive to some immigrants that just want to establish themselves more permanently & get a quicker start in life. Also housing in Canada tends to be larger which is another factor to some immigrants. For me though (a Jamaican born in the US moving to UK) the UK's much more attractive than either Canada or the US

What do you mean Canada is bigger country compared to the UK? You meant in terms of land mass or population? UK is ‘by far bigger’ than Canada in terms of population ( 30 million more ) and so to get your dream job might be easier in Canada because their are not a lot of competition. Having said that, each to their own. Some would prefer Canada or UK depending on the individual’s preferences.

Becoming a UK Citizen is not that long. You get an Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) after 5 years on skilled workers Visa which is an equivalent of Canadian Resident Permanent. You can apply for citizenship one year after getting ILR. Both countries are good provided you get a good job or business opportunity.
@itsmaryamsalam2 жыл бұрын

Yes the PR is easier to get but express entry is now about 481 points. You require at least Master's, 3 years White collar experience and perfect english scores. People generally do not move to Canada for a better job or more money. It’s all about the lifestyle change. I know Aussie citizens and the working conditions are generally better in Australia than in Canada. The pay is a third higher and the healthcare system is better in Australia. They went to Canada because they wanted the lifestyle and environment that Canada has to offer, things they could not find in Australia or the UK they have citizenship. The cost of living in Australia is expensive - more expensive that some places in Ontario. Don’t think for a minute that it’s all about finances because it isn’t at all! If it is all about money, you are better off in the UK. Comparing the UK to Canada when it comes to shopping for groceries, nearly every service-related thing costs more in Canada for poorer quality. Canada could seem perennially 10-15 years behind the curve when compared to the UK in that regard. I think it depends on where you live in each country. UK has become more expensive since Brexit. For someone in a developing country moving to Canada could be more advantageous as you can move as a PR and will need just 3 years to apply for citizenship. You also do not to pay high fees to maintain your residence permit as you would in the UK. In the end, it depends on what you want, why you are moving and what makes you happy.

This is spot on. Again when it comes to the UK the current immigration rules make it extremely difficult for you to have a clear path to citizenship and it’s by design. On the aspects of jobs in the UK, the pay is less compared to Canada for thesame field AND even if you manage to get a good job here in the UK THEY will remind you real quick that you are black and you’d probably find yourself moving from job to job. Even I myself want to JAPA to Canada from the UK 😂

I disagree on the 3rd pro for Canada. Big does not mean more opportunities. Yes, that process may not be quick but it does not pay as much as UK. Canada's big land mass comes as a disadvantage most times as it is a very cold place almost all year round, meaning you rarely have time to socialize like you will do in the UK. You can easily move around to meet friends and families but you will think it over in Canada.

Yes they do, for papers in d usa, is a bid hard after sch to get ur documents in d states, but if u do get ur papers is wey better than canada, cos i have lived in both countries, but if u go to canada to sch, u will definately get ur papers after sch, if you follow d right route and a lawyer, but in a nutshell if u have access to USA papers, America is d best place to live, i promise u that.

One of the secrets of getting the Canadian visa is that they want to get people with high educational qualification into their country . Not people with liability & without educational & professional years of experience. That for me makes Canada rock & a win for me over the UK👏👏💕💕👍🏻

The weather in Canada is enough to put you off. What life can you have in that harsh winter? Literally scrapping snow off for half hour before work .. who wants to do that if given an option.
@itsmaryamsalam2 жыл бұрын
And who told you it’s harsh in all provinces or cities like that? Don’t let your ignorance shine through. You’ve got this!
@bglr2783 Жыл бұрын
@@itsmaryamsalam not all provinces but majority of it is. Now don't tell me Canada is like Maldives all year around. We have relatives living in different parts of Canada and we know the reality. Again social media and internet is enough to give you a clear pic. Even nova Scotia a province with considerably less harsher winter has snow most of the winter. So, please be careful when you spread misinformation.

Integration in Canada is not easy, networking is not also that easy, getting your dream jobs takes time. Remember the background of where you are coming from is important to your success in Canada. Someone who has UK education and work experience and move to Canada has more opportunities than someone from developing countries. If you are coming as student, be prepared for the expenses and working and schooling is not easy and make sure you have enough money to sustain you .

It depends on where but in Ontario, probably about CAD$1,500 which is about a million naira (Accomodation, feeding + basics - nothing extravagant yet)

I don’t think Canada pays higher, we forget that 1cad is almost half a pound (0.60) so the numbers will be high. In general uk has cheaper food, clothes and rent. I am not sure about the taxes but I’m guessing lower tax in the uk. No tourism at all in Canada, I’ve friends that have never left Canada since they got there. The only place you can visit while living in Canada is probably Mexico, USA and Jamaica, while for the uk it’s extremely cheap to visit European countries. Flight price compared to Canada and uk when visiting Nigeria is double. Extreme weather. The closest country like Nigeria is still the uk, the uk is literally African 2.0. Night life in the uk in ahead. Lastly Canada seems like a really boring country.
