If you're moving in a trailer, start by marking the footage you were quoted inside the empty trailer. Measure that distance from the front of the equipment and mark it with a piece of tape or chalk. Remember, you only pay for the space you use! Don't worry if you under or over-estimated the amount of space you need in the trailer; just use what you need and your price will be adjusted accordingly.
Before you start loading, cover the floor of the trailer space with a plastic tarp to protect upholstered items and furniture. Follow the same rule of thumb as moving in a Cube: load heavy items first and stack lighter boxes on top. Pack high and tight to conserve space and keep your items from shifting around. Use the tracks on the inside trailer walls to tie down your belongings with rope, straps, or bungee cords. You can secure large, heavy, or wheeled items by nailing braces into the wooden parts of the trailer floor. Turn lawnmowers or four-wheelers sideways to make it easier to secure.
When you're done, cover your entire shipment with plastic sheets or a tarp to protect your things from any dust.

Does anybody know the dimensions of the holes in the metal side beams on the walls (where the bulkhead hooks in)? Need to know this in order to decide if typical 2in flat hooks of ratchet straps can fit to secure the load.

Can you store your stuff at a UPack storage facility at destination for a few months? Is that expensive? Can it stay in the trailer if you fill one up?

I have to point out that the bulkhead we had on our upack trailer did not look or work like this at all. It was 2 heavy plastic sheets that had overlapping tabs. You had to use the straps they provided to install it. No way near as easy as this video makes it out to be.

My trailer was terrible. Dirty and the ramp didn't work and those doors were tied with ridiculous bulkhead ties that our movers couldn't even budge. They have been complaining while loading like we were the bad guys. Wouldn't use U-pack again.

Your quote includes up to three business days to load your belongings (not counting weekends, so you could take delivery on a Friday and keep the trailer until the following Wednesday), and another three business days to unload at your destination. Let us know how we can help with your move!

How are these trailers moved across country ? Are they loaded on trains ? Because I cant see how they would know how much weight is in the trailer before trying to move it on the highway with all the truck scales . Also will they drop the trailer in your driveway ?

Yes they park in your driveway, and they are hauled by semi truck, household goods usually never meet the overweight ratings on a trailer.

So they're happy to provide a ramp but you need to keep a giant space free on the floor of the trailer to store it? Seems like you're paying to store the ramp either way.

M Keating - You only pay for the space you use behind the bulkhead. Any space left in the trailer after you’ve installed the bulkhead isn’t billable... this includes the space for the ramp.

@@laura.redfield Also, I was told to let them know when I finish loading to call them to pick up also let them know to send an extra truck to pick up the ramp seperate from my full trailer.

david fulps - Good to know. I’ve only seen info about using part of a trailer. Regardless, you’re only billed for the space you use and not for the space taken up by the ramp. In your case, it sounds like that was the whole trailer so other arrangements had to be made by the company for the ramp.

I just learned they sub-out to Moving Staffers, pretty competitive rates. (For me, my quote was "2 helpers for 2 hrs ($335). 2hrs minimum, each hr after $80/hr"
