IT'S TIME FOR THE MOVING VLOG!! 🏠
If you haven't seen my recent apartment hunting video, make sure you go and check that out too! Today's vlog is going to focus on me packing, moving, and unpacking, and at the end I will talk about the cost and how moving works in Japan. ⭐️
It was really stressful and took up soo much more time than I thought lol. I'm really glad I did it before my new job started, I don't know how I will do this again while I'm working...it's really a lot of work to do it all 😭
Let me know how moving is in your country down below in the comments! I feel like it's way more time-consuming here and stressful but I never really have been an independent working adult in America so it's hard to comment on it really hehe

I definitely like the second apartment a lot except the closet. If I could move the closet from the first choice it’d be a great apartment for one person I think. Good luck with the rest of your move! And the new job that can be stressful! I started a new job last Fall after finishing my second bachelors degree and its stressful but good learning experience.

You could create a lot more storage if you think three-dimensionally and create some storage above, one simple way would be to buy a bunk bed and use the top bunk for storage. LOL, you looked very stressed out and you look like you need a holiday now. 🏝️

I enjoyed your video. When I lived in Japan, I had an absolute nightmare of a move. I asked a Japanese friend to get quotes for me from removal companies because I didn’t feel confident enough to do it myself. She said it would be too expensive and that her husband would hire a small truck for half a day and we could do it ourselves. All I needed to do was pack everything up in boxes. I can’t remember how much it cost but probably around ¥8000. He turned up with a van (not a truck), and his teenage son. They loaded up the fridge, washing machine, small table, 2 chairs, TV, mattress and the van was full. Drove it to the new place and half a day was gone and they had to take the van back. So, I spent the next 2 weeks, before and after work making numerous trips on the train with my suitcases - clothes, books, small appliances and kitchen and bathroom stuff. I probably made at least 2 early morning trips and 2 late night trips every day and at that time I was working 6 days a week. Everything I had packed into boxes had to be unpacked and crammed into my 2 wheelie suitcases but not so heavy that I couldn’t manage - walking to station, up the stairs (no lift) on the train for 15 mins, the destination station had a lift from the platform down to the gates and then another one up to the street, then a 15 minute walk to the new place….empty the suitcases and go back for another load. I did this with a broken toe too as I dropped my TV (old style) on it trying to lift it up onto its stand. A couple of days before I had to be completely out of the old apartment, the same friend rang me and asked if I had anything else that needed to be moved and when I said yes, she sent her husband and son with their car this time to take the rest of it. I took the train with the suitcases while they took the rest of my stuff by car. I then had to go back and clean the old apartment. Only then was I able to start organising my new place (a small 2 bedroom, 2 storey house where I lived for the next 13 years). I so regretted not getting a removal company to move the lot in one go. I was willing to pay but my friend said it would be prohibitively expensive. I’d have happily paid ¥80,000 to avoid the aggravation. Looking forward to seeing your video of the apartment all set up.

Hi Allison!! Thanks for share! The last time I moved it costs $3,000 USD plus tip for 3 moving guys to transport all of my packed boxes and furniture into a UHaul I rented from my 3rd floor walk up, one bedroom apartment. It took them 3 hours. They did not provide boxes, wrap furniture for protection - nothing!! Those prices for the amount of work the movers do in Japan sounds like an Isekai dream! 😂🤩

I’m very glad you covered the implementation of moving companies here. I have lived here for a little over four years and my wife and I have used a moving company. Although paying for this service may seem unwarranted especially when considering the cost…..we were very pleased. The packers were very efficient and so professional and courteous. The Japanese are also known for efficiency….using a company to help with moving takes the stress out of transitioning from place to place. Thank you…..I also stress to everyone arriving in Japan the use of a moving company helps with luggage to one’s accommodations

Glad to see you're settling in! I just orchestrated a move from Fukuoka to Saitama for a 2LDK apartment, plus getting me and two kitties here (it was a long, long day). The apartment getting process is so, so stressful (as was closing out the old one) I don't want to do it again any time soon. The move itself turned out be the easy part (well, if you discount packing 50+ boxes). I had one company come in and take a ton of stuff away, and I lucked into movers who charged me around 1.6 million for that cross-country move. Beats the 55,000 yen Art charged me to move less than 10 pieces of furniture 150 meters during busy season.

I stayed with Sakai as he called and calculated and hubby quickly took Ari upstairs to talk. Ari guy must not have seen me. He started bad mouthing Sakai saying they used gaijin employees. Yeah hubby noped out of that quote fast. The guy seemed a bit horrified when he saw me. Hubby later told me what happened.😅
