The improvements are so lovely! When it comes to preventing water damage on the wood, you just need to take the time to clean up spills and reseal the wood occasionally so it is protected. Beautiful job!

My two favorite parts of this video were when you both were sitting on the ground facing each other at dusk and the sky was beautiful in the background, as the two of you were talking, laughing and sharing a bottle of wine together-- just relaxing at the end of the day. My second favorite was when Isabel said a little bit later, " I have cried so much in the past month" and Logan quickly responded "Me too". I laughed! I needed that laugh Logan. I love how this family builds each other up. She's basically a carpenters daughter that knows way more than she is letting on. She doesn't just happen to have thousands of dollars in carpentry tools magically appearing that she just happens to know how to use but that's how she presents it. Instead she focuses on learning with Logan, helping him build his skills and his self confidence, which is true love.

I know exactly how you feel Isabel...we just finished our home build and we were out of the house for 7 months and I was starting to fall apart. We had to live in our RV first then when winter hit we moved to my mother-in-laws and I was so greatful for her and sharing her space with us 5 and 3 dogs and cat but I needed my home back. I feel like myself again, I feel like I am whole again. its amazing what home does for the soul. I'm happy for you guys and being back in your space. you deserve a restful summer.

Girl it's STUNNING!! Also, I have butcher block around my sink and it's been FINE. We are just really careful to dry it with a towel whenever it gets wet, and we don't use a dry rack. Anything that needs to dry we have to dry by hand and just put away. As long as you don't have leaks and dry it when it gets wet you'll be fine!

I finally moved to Washington state to retire at 60. I had lived in five other states for family obligations. It was finally my turn, once I was alone. Isabel, your new look in your home is beautiful. Looks like you have much more storage space. You designed it very well. I love to watch you work. Most woman would never attempt what you do with carpentry. My son ( in Colorado) has a huge greenhouse and is already getting zucchini, cucumber, herbs of all kinds, snow peas, cherry tomatoes and more. Maybe someday you can build a greenhouse so you have your veggies earlier. You have so many possibilities on that piece of property and your so young. Absolutely beautiful area for sure. Isabel, at 11:37 in this video, I see where you are using a power tool while some part of clothing, what looks like a cloth strap or tie, is dangling free near the saw that is powered on. You often set a good example of using hearing protection or eye protection, so I hope you would consider wearing overalls, or some sort of protective clothing which would prevent loose fabric from dangling near a saw. A little cautiousness to avoid loose clothing when operating power saws would prevent, or greatly lower the odds of, a horrible accident taking place if your clothing were to get caught in the saw while it was powered.

That area you're in is glorious. I mean yeah by the time it gets to snowing everything has been parched off by autumn and fall (real contrast to the springtime). Then the dead of winter. The silence is great I'm sure. The cold is trying...actually very dangerous. But if you prepare and can stand cabin fever...not too bad, music reading getting out and facing the cold is good practice. That springtime there this year is pretty nice. Wishing you a good year.

Alder is a really good choice for your countertop. It actually hardens when you soak it in water. It was used in building bridges and shields.

Girl, you rock! I know you don't feel confident with the building stuff, so much is a learning curve and the journey can be discouraging, but - you do it! I'm married to a super talented handyman, who can build and figure out everything - so of course he ends up using his skills to take care of things, and even if I help, he takes the lead. In some ways I'm jealous for your opportunity to have a learning curve, because once you are on the end side of it, you can have so much more confidence and pride in your work! Pre-marriage, I just started getting into more handiwork and building stuff, but having 3 babies, I spent my time with other things, and though rewarding in a completely different way, I do miss working with wood etc. You inspire me to still try to have projects and try to maybe involve my kids in them too.

The tiny house looks awesome, well done. You got it done so fast. Get some danish oil or natural oil, resin and wax blend finish on the interior timber to help protect and seal it. It will also bring out the natural tone and grain beautifully without covering it up like a stain can.
