When I move my clothes from home to my apartment at school I leave them on the hangers but instead of packing them in a suitcase I poke a hole in a garbage bag so the hanger hook can come through and then the garbage bag is protecting my clothes. This way you have more room for pants and shoes/stuff you don't hang to put in the suitcases.
