I just wanted to comment on a few things based on my own experience looking for an apartment this year, in hopes that it might give some more insight! 1) "Depending on whether or not you use a broker" -- I think this is going to be the case in like 95% of the situations nowadays unless you are going directly to a "luxury" apartment's leasing office or you find some sort of unicorn. It's not really dependent on "you using them", it's just that it's going to go through them in basically all cases now. 2) "Include a month's rent with your application" -- I have to be honest here but this is a pretty standard thing now because the market is not in our favor. If you are unable to do this, they will probably just go with someone else. This year's rental market is one of the worst and unfortunately going off historical indicators of scams and going "by the book" may lead you to lose out on housing right now. I 100% agree with other points though (see the place first!!!) but understand that there are places that get rented within a few days of being listed. I find it hard to believe all these places are even being shown before the renter makes the decision. Places under renovation that you can't see are being listed and rented too. It is a difficult time right now...

If you're moving into a large apartment building around Boston, make sure you get information about their move-in requirements and procedures. Many buildings require extensive insurance from movers and contractors, so make sure whoever you're hiring is able to provide that coverage.

Do you think 60k a year still livable in Boston in 2023? I will probably have to commute to my work 2 times a week. I'm still thinking whether should I accept or decline the offer.

This decision is impacted on how much you are willing to pay for rent. If you want to live in the heart of Boston, you are either going to live in a pretty small apartment (400 sq ft or less if alone) and/or going to need a roommate. Since you only have to come in 2x a week, you have expanded options to use the commuter rail where you are further from the heart of Boston but it is more affordable and you have a better chance of living comfortably at 60k a year. This decision is also impacted based on factors such as debt, how much you will need to move, etc... I hope this gave you enough information to make the best decision for yourself!

Hi,I received a job offeŕ from Massachusetts General hospital but having second thought due to the high cost of living. I am from the Philippines. How much should i be earning per month to afford it

It really depends on what's important to you. The cost will vary if you live alone vs with roommates, live in the city vs far, how far you want your commute to be and more! Check out my Boston living playlist to see if there are any videos that can help you out!

I appreciate so much this video, it's very Interesting. I have a question: is Massachusetts State very expensive everywhere or only in Boston?

The closer to a big city like Boston the more expensive it is. Once you get further out it's a bit more affordable

Hi Hadel, could you please give me an aproximate of the cost of utilities in an apartment that includes heat and hot water? Thank you!
@HadelLynnLeyco
@HadelLynnLeyco Жыл бұрын
It depends if the building is older or newer. For newer buildings, expect at least $100 if you are by yourself depending on what utilities you need covered. For older, its gonna be higher

@@HadelLynnLeyco thank you! I’m expecting around 120 for electricity in an apartment that includes heat and water, but it is old, hopefully it’ll be enough. Thanks again for taking some of your time to reply!

Is 50k/year enough for a single mother with one child in Boston?
@HadelLynnLeyco
@HadelLynnLeyco Жыл бұрын
That may be a little rough if you choose to live in the heart of Boston with just you and your child. You could consider living in the areas that require the commuter rail as the further from the heart of Boston you are the cost tends to go down a bit

You can’t live in Boston if you don’t make $100,000 or more. As young lady said roommates maybe. In heart of city it’s $4,000 a month so $1,000 a bedroom. 😊

It sounds way too stressful to move to Boston, especially as someone like me who’s out of state😭😭😭do you think a $70k a year salary would be enough to live and still be able to save some money too?
