A few years ago I moved to Asia from Africa with one huge suitcase and lived in the tiniest apartment. In my first six months there I noticed I was only using half of the things I had packed in my suitcase, and it really made me realize how much stuff I really don’t need. It transformed my life forever and I’ve become a minimalist now. I hope y’all’s experience living in a tiny home will be very positive and life changing in some way.

More than enough space for two. I've loved tiny homes from the first time I saw one on TV. So happy for y'all. I know you'll love the simple and good life. And what a location! You two know how to do it. Congratulations 🎉🎉🎉

Hi! I love your new place. My husband and I had to downsize to a tiny1-bedroom place from a 3-bedroom house. It was a challenge but we eventually got rid of a ton of stuff. A few tips and things I did: -Limit dishes (how many do you actually need. Maybe 3-4 for the both of you. And 1 bowl each?) when you finish eating then hand wash. Nothing builds up. If you need a plate and it’s dirty wash it instead of reaching in the cabinet for a new one. And same with forks and spoons. -limit cooking utensils (I downsized to one spatula, one flipper (I use this to stir things too), a pair of tongs) -same with pots and pans (try to keep only one pot and one pan in the house) *Keep a backup container in the shed and IF you need it bring it in. But see if you can use one of the other items already in the house. One thing we did which I think would work on your big porch is setting up and outdoor kitchen. We bought a long narrow folding table (but we keep it up all the time) and put our hot plate, instant pot and a large toaster/convection oven. I do all my cooking outside! We love it! Keeps the house cooler, too. The biggest thing that helped us what only keep what I truly need inside. Everything else to the shed (or the storage you have). Id put almost everything in storage or the shed and if you find yourself needing it bring it in but try not to. It is SO nice. The kitchen and house hardly takes any time to clean and tidy now. I don’t even use my dishwasher anymore. It’s just faster to do it myself! Get over-the-door hanging baskets for under the kitchen sink, bathroom cabinets, and the bathroom door and “hallway” closet. In the bathroom hang a shelf over the door if you need more storage inside. And do this in the hallway closet too. If you can add another shelf above the one that’s in there. Actually….Sometimes the pole and shelf they put in the closet doesn’t use space very well. Rethink it. Do you need more shelf space? Remove the current shelf and pole and buy a standing shelf and if you need the hanging space then add something small to the side of the shelf. This helps me. I have a tall shelf and then from the shelf to the wall I added a small pole for dresses. You can make it yourself. Hope that makes sense. Also use the inside of the kitchen cabinets for storage. You can attach basket “shelves” to the door just make sure it doesn’t hit the shelf. I like the basket you have hanging from the shelf but the have ones that attach to the actual door too for tons of things too, if you need it. Also in the cubby shelving in the living room are you able to put baskets behind the wicker one? And also rethink space. If you put one basket in under a cabinet and there is space above it see if you can get a plastic drawer organizer and stack them up. Then get smaller containers to go inside that. I hope your fridge is magnetic for the spices ! Just change your mindset to keep things simple. Like going to an Airbnb they don’t have a lot in the kitchen. Basic things but everything we would need. Instead of buying things to make room for what you have see what you can remove and take out. In a small space keep it visually simple. Since it’s small it can feel cluttered and messy but it’s not. I like your idea to take the spices off the window ledge and put plants and candle. That will visually look nice!! I’m so excited to see what it looks like when you finish styling it! KZbin: The Minimal Mom (Dawn has a ton of great ideas and rethinking things.)

Also for optimizing storage!!! If you’re able to ditch the dishwasher then I would say do it, and maybe put a basket above the fridge that can store extra stuff like towels etc. Hand washing isn’t bad at all when you get used to it (I haven’t had a dishwasher in 3 years since I moved to Korea). If you guys want some kind of seating area, get a mini sofa (very small but one that two ppl can still sit on) and then a coffee table. The coffee table will function as a working area as well as where you can eat at sitting on the floor 👌🏻👌🏻

Thank you!! We love our mini dishwasher, kyle has perfectionism tendencies and it'll take an hour to hand wash a sink full of dishes 😂 and then I don't care and will not do a good job. So that was our one must have in the space! We're looking for a good seating solution now.

You could definitely save space in the kitchen by adding shelves etc that go all the way up to the ceiling! Another idea could be to have a table and chairs outside on your deck and use that each night for when you eat dinner :)

OK, I don’t know if this is too much work for the amount of time you were planning to be there… But, if you buy a net online, and then some hook screws you can put the hooks around where Kyle was saying to put that string to hang clothes , hook the net on it, and then you can throw stuff up there like extra bedding, towels, pillows, etc. If that didn’t make sense, I can probably try to explain it better! Lol. So excited for you guys.

Kian!! Drop everything and run to check out Home Reserve for your living room furniture! I have a sectional in our condo but tons of people love them in RVs and tiny homes because every piece is individual so you build whatever size you’d like, every seat has storage, and the covers are removable, washable, and easy to change with your style!! Definitely a bit of an investment but SO WORTH IT!! ❤❤

My husband and I live in 575 sq ft. We love it!! I have, however, accumulated extra decor so we're probably gonna size up 200 sq ft or so for an extra closet space, but otherwise.. haha it's great and takes a lot of weight off of my shoulders when cleaning and straightening. Not great for hosting parties, but we're mostly introverted anyway.
