You know what's even MORE fun than pottery? Mining copper with a real pickaxe! We've moved into the copper age and are on the cusp of becoming a brilliant blacksmith.
We make charcoal...which was awesome. We mine some copper...which was awesome. We killed a bear...after it killed me...which was awesome.
Feedback is always welcome.

The series, as a whole, will be me stumbling through all the mechanics and survival aspects of the game Vintage Story. While assuming it's just Minecraft.

You are going to kick yourself later that you didn't mark that tin spot. You only need a small amount of tin to get into the Bronze Age about what you would have found under that spot :)

I totally get you when you were talking about the sense of wonder and discovery when learning these games, that's my favorite part of this genre and holy crap the buildup in this one looks so satisfying. Mad respect for figuring all this out blind man, I really hope you continue with this series, it's super interesting!

@@BEDplaysGAMES A very different type of survival game that gave me the same sense of wonder and wander, is Project Zomboid by The Indie Stone. For a VERY DIFFERENT survival game that gave me that same feeling is Rimworld, though the stretch between Rimworld and Vintage Story may be a little more than just genre.

A little trick I use when I find surface ore, is that I make a dirt stack/tower right where I find the ore. That way you know where to dig when you return. I mostly use packed dirt, because it's cheap and stands out so it's easy to spot. I would also recommend that when you make marks on the map, that you write some more info on what you found. That will help you a lot in the future when you have a lot marked on the map. When you have finnished digging up an ore, you can either delete the mark, or make it black, so you know that you got it already. It's also a good idea to mark any and all ores you find. At least in the beginning. Maybe not quartz, but everything new you find at least. You can make a small light source from one piece of fat and a foodbowl. It's way better than torches (imo) because it's permanent, and doesnt go out in water. Perfect for having in your of hand while exploring. And charcoal can be dug up with a shovel. It's a lot faster. I wouldnt waste a metal shovel though. Flint is fine for the small jobs. That also goes for making firewood with a axe. I really enjoy watching new people get in to this game. And it seems like you are enjoying yourself :)

Thank you for the nice comment and taking the time to write one. I appreciate all the tips and guidance, it's been an interesting concept, playing a game like this blind. It's been really rewarding though. I can't wait to see what else is in store. And I really am enjoying myself. I haven't found a game that pulled me in this much in a really long time.

Perfect place to end the video. I saw you light that pit kiln right beside the nice flammable grass and walk away. Good thing your home is dirt. But I hope you didn't lose too much in the grass fire I see coming. In my first world, I burned down a forge building and the painstakingly decorated windmill above it with a grass fire started just like that. I walked away and went hunting and came home and two buildings were gone and all the storage inside.

That's brutal. How many blocks away will fire catch? I plan to build my smithy and figure I'd put the crucibles and firepits inside some sort of fireplace structure.
@pardotkynes1
@pardotkynes1 20 күн бұрын
@@BEDplaysGAMES I'm sure there is one, but I have never seen the limit to fire spread. In the build I spoke of the pit kiln was only about maybe 10 max blocks away and there was a lot of tall grass between them, I did break the grass right next to the pit one block and thought that would be enough. I was wrong :), but how did yours do? Was I right, was there a fire?

Yes malachite can be used like the other copper and can be mixed but malachite makes a really attractive color for decorating later so it's a good find.

That copper in limestone is a really good find. Such copper deposits are often very large and limestone is extremely useful

You can melt more then one ingot in the crucible at the same time. Saves on fuel and time. Just make sure you always have a multiple of 100 units

You can fit more than 6 bricks in a pit kiln. I cant remember how many, but it's more than one layer. And with the bricklayer mod (made by Tels the legend) you can do 16 in one kiln. Bricklayers is a mod almost everyone uses along with the (carry on mod). And once you start chiseling, the (chisel tools mod) becomes the third everyone uses it mod.

In a pinch you can make fire pits for storage one grass and the same 4 wood over and over, then each fire pit is 2 storage spots. Because you can put anything even if it is not burnable in the fuel spot.

Hahaha I’m sure I’m not the only one yelling at the screen “AUGH!! mark that on your map!” Also, there is a real color map that’s much more useful than the sepia tone one. You can look up the console command to change it if you want to try it.

You really should have marked that tin ore. It's required for progression and surface deposits are not as common as copper. Smelting 18 copper nuggets with 2 tin nuggets makes one ingot of tin bronze.
@kahvozeinsfang6953
@kahvozeinsfang6953 23 күн бұрын
Also, if you can retrace your steps back to the tin, you should get it to make a tin bronze anvil. No reason to make a copper anvil if you have tin.

I'm going to try to watch the video and locate that spot again. I think I can do it. I didn't realize ore on the ground meant an underground deposit for ALL ores, I thought it was just for copper. Thanks for the suggestions! I did already make the copper anvil, so I can't skip that, but I'd like to move slow and experience each step as I go, so I don't mind too much.

Thanks, Nashty! I really do need to put some time into SF again, but this is just so much fun. Someone else said that about tin. I didn't realize at the time that the ground ore was a deposit underground for everything. My ADHD brain assumed it was just copper and it was for the start.

To me the only similarities to Minecraft that this game has are cubes. Minecraft is so simple and easy compared to this. Survival is a breeze in Minecraft while in this game even hogs and chickens will try to kill you. Don't forget the eldritch horrors too, but you don't have to worry about em much until you go mining
