Go with L gage standard. 99% of train crossings in the real world are raised above the road anyway. So having it slightly raised would be more realistic.

Like the new layout a lot! And the space to work with is huge! Well done! You could opt to not cut the baseplates and put the whole baseplate down. You build the BURP wall (or whatever pieces & techniques you'll choose) on top but just on the front half of the baseplate. The back half is out of sight under the raised platform. So no sweat. And if you ever need the baseplates at a later stage; voilà! (You'll probably still need to cut one or two though for the legs of the platform).

Watching this on May 4th so Happy Star Wars Day everyone!!! Enjoyed the video Jordan, lots to think about - train tracks level with road height is good because the plate height differences can be hidden with slopes, vegetation and fences; 6:10 stud split on raised platform would be good to allow for facades plus moving 'murps' forward slightly is a good idea; I know the amount of bricks would be extreme but how about bricking the wall above the proposed facades to look like sky and clouds (like on the NES screen but better!)?! Sorry to put that idea in your head! 🤣🤣

Great progress! Here's my suggestions. Move the track one plate higher to tack it down (L standard). Blend the sides of the train plates up on the edges to interface with the Mils plates. It's OK if the ground dips down before the ballast, it's realistic. I'd modify the train/road crossings with a 1 plate slope increase on the road. Again it's realistic and would look good. Adding height variations makes it more visually interesting. I wouldn't cut the baseplates for the rock wall. Use full ones and don't worry about the half that sticks under the table. Only use halves where the legs are for now.

Good day, hope you are in good health. Just wanted to say love your channel. My suggestion is for ideas on th cliff wall. In NYC there are a few places. One is the cloisters, another is Riverside drive, and the last is Morningside Park. Lots of cliffs and dense park. Lastly dud you try using 2x2 turntable plates on your corners and fix them to green plates from the bottom. Sorry for the long post, can't wait for the updates.

Building facades behind a lot of the modular buildings on the platform is a great idea I think. It really will create a great field of depth with lots of details of skyscrapers and random buildings, especially behind the Avengers Tower. It would pretty much look like the box art of an expensive Lego DC or Marvel or City set.

Lots of thinking to do. I really like the way the modular buildings look, and the train track I think would look the best would be the L gage train track. Their easy to move, look great, and their much more detailed and look way better. But very part intensive. Its truly up to you. And I have suggestion: If you were to cover underneath the platforms you could maybe build a bunch of facades to cover it up.

Ok first, great video! I’m rebuilding my city right with you and am facing the same questions. Yes you can cut baseplates wether real or third party. You can always get more baseplates. That’s the ONLY cutting I do though. Next, I would leave the train tracks as is. Finally try a few facades and see how they look. You can always remove them. It might look too cluttered but it depends on the height and color I guess, (Mr. Bookiboo is a great builder and resource 👍) I know it takes a lot of time but that’s what we love as Lego builders, the constant ability to change your city. Look forward to seeing what you decide.😀

Hey Bricksie, everything you said at the end of your video resonates with me, that feeling of wanting it to get it right on the first go.. I've been told that it's the perfectionnist dilemma. I have that too.. I'm still learning how to deal with it. In regards to your Lego city, it's amazing by the way.. your city is "alive", it's a work in progress, it's ever evolving.. I think not matter how to plan to set it up, new ideas will come along and new inspirations, models and projects will show up. So, I don't think you need to worry about _the_ best way to get it set up... Right now I think all the content you're producing here is awesome, it's all about trial and error, analyzing what you tried and what you learned so that you can improve it every time. Maybe you set yourself a deadline to get this project done and that's why you're focussing on doing it right the first time.. but I think you don't need a deadline.. I think you just need to give yourself more time and have fun trying the options you feel good. Hang in there, we're with you :)

Okay, I've got some thoughts on each of the topics you bring up here, and also another thing I realized looking at your new layout. Hope my thoughts are helpful. Cutting baseplates: In some of the cases, couldn't you just use a full baseplate and have it go under the risers? You'd only have to use a half baseplate where there's a leg for the risers. Maybe you end up able to baseplate most of the space under the risers, and have that train track on plates too, though of course less fancy because it's hidden. Rock walls: If it's possible, I do still think it'd be really cool to use a 32x32 baseplate on its side as the basis for the rock walls, and you could sideways build a cliff edge on it, complete with features like trees and stairs and so on. Personally, I would have a bit where there's a staircase zig-zagging up the cliff, but there's an inconspicuous door half way up that leads into a hidden secret base under the risers. :D (My city has a hidden underground base) Facades: I love the idea of facades behind the upper level. 6-10 studs would be fantastic, and you could either build up some brickwork details, or hang baseplates on the wall, and make the facades like a Lego Art piece with enough space to give it some depth. Whichever way you think would look better. Also having a walking street along the front, built out to the cliff, would be pretty cool. But that brings me to something I thought of... Road Levels: You've got roads in between buildings up top, but do those roads just end there? Easy answer: yes, we'll build a road ending there, maybe a parking lot for the cliffwalk. Awesome answer: No, they go to a huge project idea I have where there's a modular building on the lower level that's actually a giant car elevator and/or parking garage. (My city also has a car elevator) Train tracks: I think the entire reason for going to MILS was so that you could build *down*, and train tracks being even with the roads are a perfect example of that. The way it is, I would say is perfect for the level crossings. Though if you could raise the sidewalks up, or blend them in a little better, that'd be good. Even like, the cheese wedges would work. Track curves: What if you customized the ballasting a little, maybe you could use a turntable at one or more points to anchor the curves down? I'll admit I don't know much about Lego Trains, but I feel like there must be a way you could connect them. There's no question though: curved train tracks are like, the bane of Lego cities. :P Highrises: That back corner where the Avengers Tower is standing all lonely.. I think it'd be absolutely awesome to fill that corner with a backdrop of highrise buildings, skyscrapers that really build up the city and give it a unique and distinctive skyline. From modern 'glass and steel' looking buildings like Avengers, to imposing "concrete jungle" blocks, to classic Art Deco works of intricate, even opulent designs. ...I have many ideas and I'm practically drooling over the thoughts of what could be, in that space. :D

The City is taking shape now, and already looks amazing, something to consider on the platform is that you will potentially have more space on the front of the buildings if you use the tops of the rock wall, there are 2 studs extra which allows you to pull out the modulars a little more, giving you more space at the back of the modulars for facades. you can have the cobbled walkway overhanging the rock wall even and more then likely there will be some staircases up to the platform, and possibly some elevator for wheelchair access. The more you can puul the top modulars forward the better depth it will give when the facades go in.

I have a solution for the half basplate problem, just put your clifedges/walls on the side of your full baseplates and then have the other part under the raised platform. Only where the legs are you have to use half ones. I hope this will help you.

If you are not putting roads for cars in front of the modulars on the top shelf, I think a smaller walkway in front and facades in the back will look very good. Maybe a little mountain somewhere if you can get it to fit in, but if you will build rocks all the way in the font of the ledge then it could be too much mountains (Mr Bookieboo has pulled it off so I am sure you could too if you wanted to go for that solution).

Definitely build the station in the tunnel near where you plan to have the interchange for the different trains. You could then put a clear facade to see in behind some buildings.
@hiker13922 жыл бұрын
Not terribly hot on the facade. They eat a lot of bricks and IMHO don’t really look that good with the scale of the modulars. Yes, do cut inexpensive baseplates. No shame! So far, my favorite placement is Town Hall with the park square in front. We need our green space.👍 L gauge and blend in with green plate looks very attractive. But what you have currently with floating corners works too. Can’t lose. The burps walls would aid in visualizing the raised section options. Thank you so much for filming this series. You have so many options, but they are all good in their way. 😎

Where you have open space along the back wall, do construction sites or advertisements for property for sale. That way, it isn't blank but is immediately ready for new buildings when you get them.
@ArathixFilms2 жыл бұрын
You posed a lot of options here so I'll try and organise my comment, so in my personal opinion I believe you should do the following; -Train Station, in your last video I suggested building it into the under platform, which you thought about in this one, I believe it would be awesome to have a train station that leads under the platform, gives a great illusion of depth. A hidden platform, that could be revealed would be epic. -Platform and MURPS, I think yes you should shift everything forwards, the MURPS to the edge of the baseplate or maybe leave a stud or 2, then shift the modulars forwards and you don't have to sacrifice path space for the facades at the back, best of both worlds. I think tall facades is a great idea and will only add to that city feeling. -Train Track, I agree I think it being level with the roads for the crossings is the best way to go, like you said you'll cover up the sides of the MILS plates with the fence, and untacked corners you won't really notice that much when all is said and done especially for how much work/parts it would take to have it the other way. P.S I still think the other road that goes under the platform should be a fake tunnel, it could even go round a corner out of sight, add some lights and voila, great inner city tunnel. So Train station on one road and fake tunnel on the other. City is looking so good! Been waiting for this video xD modular placement is great and MILS means if you get any more pop culture stuff things can be moved, got a lot of extra space now and its genuinely feeling much more like a city now than the old layout.

You do you for the train plates. However, when I drive over a train track it does pop up a bit. I understand you wanting to make it look smooth through there, but it's either extra parts bought for lifting the train plates, or extra parts bought for trying to hide it with the rock wall. But you could use your current rail under the cliff, since it will be hidden it doesn't need to look that good. Yes it is a plate height difference, but it might be do able for the dip if it's hidden.

I think you should bring the train track up a plate so everything is at the same height and you can take down corners to make it more complete. If all of the track comes up a plate width than it will fix the exposed brick issue giving you more options for those spots and the crossing heights with also be even with the other sidewalks.
