For future broodiness you move the broody hen at night.

Yeah, we read some different things prior, but night seems to be the consensus. You can't tell in the video, since our camera is very good in low light, but its pretty dark in the shed that she is in. All in all, it ended well and we should have an update very soon.

Easiest way to move chickens is in pitch black dark. At night is best. And leave them in dark for a good time as possible

Seems to be the general consensus. Folks have had luck either way. You can tell in the video, because our camera has extremely good low light capabilities but the place where she was is fairly dark. She ended up doing very well in there. Stay tuned for the outcome!!

I'm still learning myself and tried to let our young silkies who had recently started to lay at around 21weeks to 26 weeks old and a month later they started dropping down broody so we tried to let them hatch some runner ducks but after a week they got bored so tried another broody hen and same again, they managed to incubate them right up until due date but then they all stopped being broody,🤦‍♀️ it's my fault for trying to soon but we all live and learn by our mistakes, it's a part of life,I love watching your videos x

I know nothing about chickens. I don't understand, why not just leave a broody hen alone?
@LifeOnBeagleRoad
@LifeOnBeagleRoad 6 жыл бұрын
Could have left it but wanted her and the chicks to be comfortable. Most of the time she had her head in the bucket. We also didn't want a predator to get her. We have been losing a bunch to hawks and a ground predator.

I have a saying. Let sleepin babies, dogs and broody hens lay. In other words I don't mess with them. If they're in a safe location I leave them alone.

Yeah, that's what Kenny said, but I wanted to make things more comfortable for her and the babies. In the end it was best. We should have the update out soon.

Thanks for sharing. I'd move my hens at night. I found they prefer an enclosed box with one side open to access. My experience is they feel more secure and less exposed.good luck.

hahaha we're so happy you brought back the sasquatch! I never knew what a broody chicken was, but thanks to this video and a dear friend, Google, now we know! Your place looks awesome to just chill out at with the warmer seasons coming!
@LifeOnBeagleRoad
@LifeOnBeagleRoad 6 жыл бұрын
Hahaha... Google... Yeah, its not a bad place to chill. I could do without the humidity and bugs, but other than that... not bad. Our favorite time is when its cool enough for a big fire. We typically burn all summer, roasting marshmallows, grilling hot dogs, drinking some beer! Good stuff all around!

Would this work with a duck ? Our duck is broody and has a nest outside

I've never done it with a duck, but I would imagine if you are moving them to an enclosed space, it most likely would.
