Yo! So fun! Good luck with settling in and getting garden going. I’ve not done much planting but I recommend making raised beds or mixing the Hight. Otherwise remember to water the plants and when planting look at how nutrient or nitrogen positive or negative plants are and rotate them so the soil stays balanced.

Congrats on the new move! :) It's nice to know that I'm not the only one who has neglected my closet at one point... the decluttering hack was so inspiring and I'll definitely have to do something similar with my own closet. Hope you, Josh, and the gatos are becoming well-accustomed to the new place! You may have already researched this, but from what I've gathered from watching and helping my mother with her huge garden, buying seeds from catalogs/local businesses or nurseries (or sites like eBay) rather from big chain stores tend to be higher quality, as some seeds may not be stored in correct conditions in bigger retailers. Crop rotations also massively improve soil health!! You may need to experiment with different types of soils and composts depending on the types of plants you'll be getting :) can't wait to watch your gardening journey!

Good luck on the garden! When we moved into our house it had been abandoned, so we also had a mess of an outdoor space to tackle. My not green thumb advice is more sunscreen than you think, invest in GOOD gardening gloves to protect hands and nails, and if you want wildlife to start any feeders/baths early and be patient. They take time to find them so don’t put them up as the final step if you want to enjoy seeing the birds once the work is done. ❤❤

hellooooo 🥹 i have made a garden on top of a chunk of concrete over the last couple of years and it’s finally starting to look full of life! i have a couple tips that might be helpful! 1) it’s really tempting to get loads of plants in one go, especially when they’re small. but i found after i got a whole bunch of climbing plants in a fairly small garden that they do inevitably clash. so don’t go too crazy at first, especially with larger plants - plant some up one year, and after the next growing season you will probably have a better idea of how much space they’re taking up 2) speaking of space, definitely research the eventual size of larger plants like trees and shrubs. your space isn’t tiny but could be dwarfed by a big or fast-growing shrub 3) honestly my favourite tip is sometimes? letting weeds grow to see what they end up looking like. some of them are honestly very cute & if they’re not invasive, can also be awesome for pollinators and wildlife. plus, they’re free! 4) maybe make a planner of some kind/set reminders for when certain plants need planting or pruning - if you’re anything like me you’ll forget to plant them before the planting period otherwise 🙈 5) i’m UK based and idk if america does the same, but a lot of supermarkets have somewhat neglected plant and garden sections - sometimes at the end of the season, or if the plant is looking particularly tragic, they’ll reduce them to dirt cheap. i got a solanum for 50 pence as one of my first plant purchases and even though it looked half dead at the time, it’s one of the plants that’s thriving the most now! 6) check soil type requirements, sunlight requirements, and soil/pot depth requirements before buying - it helps you know which things can live together 7) check out companion planting for flowers and also food crops - it can reduce or eliminate the need to use chemicals for creatures that like eating them hehe 8) if you use fertiliser on plants you intend to eat, make sure they’re suitable for edible plants as not all of them are! okay that’s all i can think of. i’m no pro but these are the some of the things i wish i had known and considered when i first started my garden up. i’m sure you’re going to make it look absolutely delightful out there and i can’t wait to see it 🤗 🌼 🌱
@crocusblooms4 ай бұрын
oh also, mini greenhouses are great! you can get more affordable plastic ones or wooden and glass ones, but they’ll both work, and can be handy for the beginning of the planting year when it’s too cold to plant things outside 💚

I also saw a bag of jalapeños, in our garden we have ghost peppers and we’ve noticed that they start to lose their spice after about a year. My recommendation regarding gardening as a kid to a mom who made our garden a herb paradise, use egg shells. They contain a lot of nutrients so save your eggshells and crush them so you can use them in your soil. Oh and chicken poop, it's pretty good and doesn't attract insects like horse poop does
