Moving isn't always easy. It's a physical job to chuck everything out, but then the emotional side of it all comes crashing down when you start to think about all the memories that were made in it. Life moves on, it doesn't stop for anything, but I am learning to take this time to cope.

Hi, I’m Nico Murillo, and I recently got laid off from Tesla on 4/15/2024. I was a Production Supervisor, and was with the company for 5 years. I started in 2019, as an entry level Production Associate. After getting laid off, had to make the decision to sell the house. I decided to sell most of my belongings and move into my 2021 Tesla Model Y. When I worked at Tesla, I slept in my car on work days to avoid my 3 hour round trip commute time from Lathrop, Ca to Fremont, Ca. I created a platform in my trunk with the use of Michaels, Home Depot products, and a soft mattress, where I now call my home. Living in my car enables me to save money, and invest it. I am documenting my journey to financial independence by 2029. My hope is that by sharing my own personal highs and lows along this (sometimes) wild journey, you might be inspired to look into financial independence. Maybe one day i'll see you at GNC in Stoneridge Mall Pleasanton, Ca. I currently work there now as a supplements store manager. I am off Sundays and Wednesdays though.

I have an extra room. I live not too far from Lathrop. We worked together before at Tesla. So if you end up needing a place to stay you're more than welcome to come stay. ❤

You know what this is probably the best advice she could give you bro it’s not really heathy to camp out all the time you gotta have a home to keep your mind set. I don’t know what had made you come to this point to sale the house because you could have still rent it out and make some profit…

But you have greater goals and a plan and purpose for your life. You have made wise decisions so far. Being laid off is very hard, I’ve been there, but at the same time it can be an opportunity and an open door for greater things and adventures. Keep your thoughts positive and follow your dreams 👍🙋🏻✨

Yeah this sort of comment is right on the money imo. Taking a holistic view of it all in terms of costs, effort etc and planning can make a huge difference. We live in Australia and moved out of the city decades ago and it has been the best thing ever for us. I rode a bike to work for many years which was both cheaper and I didn't waste hours commuting. When we bought our house it was old and on a large block which no one wanted back then. Now they're highly desirable and worth a lot of money as the city has expanded towards us and the roads etc have been upgraded. Very easy to think that there's only one way of doing things when there are lots of opportunities if you look around.

I am so sorry and wish you all the best for your future. Everything is temporary. This too will pass and you will experience joy very soon. Meanwhile, I am wondering if this is an US thing. Such drastic negative changes happening to so many people. Also, maybe the way the economy is structured. Such a rich country, they should have some kind of insurance to help people facing adversity get on their feet. Humaneness, empathy. In the Asian poorer countries , where i live, people don't lose their homes during jobloss and, usually survive on savings until a new opportunity comes along. Our homes tend to be inherited or, we sell something and with its proceeds, buy the home. So, there are usually no mortgages. Large mortgages are not given by banks. Wish you better times ahead❤

It is and it is not what it is … it is what you chose for your best future! When you buy things for the home you owe them , the things never owe you, you just jumped to conclusions buying this home before really understanding what buying a home is… And no need to drag people to pity you because there are hundreds of people that don’t have any of those things you have , and are in a real homeless situation that need that pity! Bro I lived out of my truck for 3 months saving up for a home and taking care of my ex girlfriend’s issues while she was backstabbing me ! And I still managed to make it work . So just because you got layed off which many of us have… doesn’t mean give up… just means have your goals straight from the start of that purchase 🎉

Tough thing to have to do mate. A couple of observations about all of this from my journey through life. Debt is just a completely bad idea unless absolutely necessary and is just selling your tomorrows for things you want today. It looks like you basically spent up based on your salary and when that went the whole thing went with it. So many do it these days it seems or want to live the YOLO lifestyle and it's just a trap imo. When we were starting out we basically had no decent furniture, no holidays or fancy vehicles and I worked every hour that I could get to make it all work. I had to as there really weren't many other options when the kids were small etc. Even now we haven't upgraded parts of our old house and my wife still loves to hit the second hand/thrift stores instead of buying new. Building wealth, for most of us, is just a lot of time and effort but it pays off in the end imo. I had a similar outlook to working to you when I was younger but getting kicked around a few times changed my view. I would always do my best and do the simple things like being honest, reliable and respectful, when deserved, but I was paid for every minute that I worked. Employers aren't doing you favours by employing you they're making money off your efforts and you're selling your time to them. Good luck with it all and I suspect that you will do just fine in life.

I hear ya. I've been in my house for 17 years. Paid off, no debt and I still have most of the same furnishings as when I moved in with the exception of a few pieces. Sometimes I feel self conscious that my house isn't more modern, but at the same time I'm saving and investing so much so I should focus on what's important. I am in my 40s and want a nice, care-free retirment.

@@quickpstuts412 Well done mate. I got into my 50's and watched as friends/family got sick and/or passed away and decided that I wasn't going to keep working flat out any more. I stopped doing overtime, unless I had no choice, and started changing my mindset and thinking about retirement. When I was just short of 60 yo I was made redundant and the payout along with what we had saved/invested meant I no longer had to work. I could have and had more toys but wasn't interested. It's been wonderful. So many live day to day and one day wake up older and nowhere. All the best with it mate and enjoy your retirement, it's the best.

I watched your first video when the layoff and a couple others but maybe I missed some informative previous content because didn’t you get the GNC job? Then why move into a car for? And who’s “we”? You said at the end you found a place because your dad and brother moving and still camp in a car? Idk I find it a little bit extreme when you can just part rent the house to help with the bills. Investing in the market is not an overnight get rich, it’s gonna take yearssss! And keep in mind it is at all time highs except for Tesla of course. Idk man you probably want to hear more advice before making rush decisions like that, just my 2 cents

But that’s how layouts happen. They are cold blooded as that’s the only way to deliver the news. And layoffs within the car industry are quite common. It’s happening all over the country from Nissan to Tesla to Mercedes.

That is true they are just materialistic things. We come into this world with nothing and we all leave the world someday with nothing. Materialistic things should never define who you are. Now if materialistic things define who you are that is a problem. I wish you luck and have enjoyed your story and sorry that happened to you.

@oldbloke204 Never said there is nothing wrong with having them but they shouldn't define who you are. There is a difference. I agree with the bottom half of your statement alot of people do buy things just to make themselves feel happy. Then eventually need to buy something else when they feel down again. Just understand you can't take them with you.

Payment on that place was probably something crazy low like $2400, and homie sounds so beat. You didn’t even try to keep it, you immediately just gave it up bro. Why you down? You only let Tesla influence your life like that, to where when they dropped you you felt the need to drop the house. If you had wanted to keep the house you would have made it happen.
