Hi, I’m Nico Murillo, and I recently got laid off from Tesla on 4/15/2024. I was a Production Supervisor, and was with the company for 5 years. I started in 2019, as an entry level Production Associate. After getting laid off, had to make the decision to sell the house. I decided to sell most of my belongings and move into my 2021 Tesla Model Y. When I worked at Tesla, I slept in my car on work days to avoid my 3 hour round trip commute time from Lathrop, Ca to Fremont, Ca. I created a platform in my trunk with the use of Michaels, Home Depot products, and a soft mattress, where I now call my home. Living in my car enables me to save money, and invest it. I am documenting my journey to financial independence by 2029. My hope is that by sharing my own personal highs and lows along this (sometimes) wild journey, you might be inspired to look into financial independence. Maybe one day i'll see you at GNC in Stoneridge Mall Pleasanton, Ca. I currently work there now as a supplements store manager. I am off Sundays and Wednesdays though.

Saw this article on Linkedin that I would like to share with you: “If you put yourself out there, people will go after you for no good reason. That shouldn't stop you from doing what you need or want to do. After a while, you'll become almost immune to it. Stuff like this stops impacting you once you've experienced it enough times. Be brave. Do what you need to do. Then be tough when someone tries to tear you down. You can do it. Once you do, you'll get to a whole new level of confidence”.

I’m sorry you went through this, brother. Layoffs are wild. I was first laid off in 2009 during the recession. I lucked out as a month after that, my old boss called me back asking if I wanted my old job back as the HR and CEO were fired who initiated the layoffs. I was then laid off in 2017. I managed to find a new job in two weeks. Now I am being faced with the same as the writings on the wall. Company was acquired 6 months ago, I managed to survive two rounds of layoffs but red flags galore. Thank you for your channel and telling your story. What an inspiration. Keep going, brother.

wow Nico, this video was the best 14 minutes I have spent today!!! It's okay to miss things from the past, but we can't live there. Living in a house as I do, I spend a lot of time keeping up the yard maintenance, I spend a lot of time on house maintenance, inside and out, and time is spent working out and taking care of my pets and other people in my family. I guess I am just saying that a lot of everyday life is about working and maintaining. So you do everything from your car home. And it's tougher due to lack of running water and conveniences like washing machines, bathrooms, kitchens., But you manage with true grit, strong will, happiness and gratitude. I love your attitude and your mindset. That is your identity, that is who you are. Within yourself, you have everything. You are a very special person Nico, thanks for sharing your thoughts with us. I hope your week is amazing!

I don't know how I got this video, but I've seen every side of it. Health is always the number one thing. A big part of it is being happy and not having enormous stress. My grandma lived a very modest life and she was still functional into her 90s. There's a genetic component to health and injuries certainly don't help, but the basics are usually there for everyone who wants it.

I’ve been teaching in the inner-city for the last 18 years. I’m a Korean American, 42 year old Angelo, born and bred in Koreatown in Los Angeles, CA. I was unhoused in my teens, living on the generosity of people I met, freebies here and there, and a part-time job that paid 7 bucks an hour. I can still remember being a grown-ass man, crying into my hands at a bus stop, wondering if I should spend my last dollar on the bus fare for adult school, or the 99 cent chicken sandwich at the Carl’s Jr. across the street (remember those?)! Almost twenty years removed, I tell that story, time to time, to my students to generate a laugh or make some kind of impression that I know what it’s like to suffer. What barely passes as a non-sequitur narrative to pull students in, is a daily reality for so many people, all over the world. I bet that story could have helped so many people if I had access to a platform like this, then. I wish that I had your vision and balls earlier in life. In my era, in the mid to late nineties, we raged against the machine. Some people died. Some live in a van down by the river. Some people had the safety net of having middle-class parents to buttress their Machiavellian impulses, but most of us either toed the line or became the very fucks that we raged against. I guess that’s me now. What happened to my America? What happened to me? It’s nice to have a comfy bed to sleep in. It feels amazing to eat and fuck and tend a garden. But do I feel whole? Do I feel safe in this world? Would Thoreau and Kafka be proud? Fuck a elon musk. Keep doing you. #theynotlikeus

I feel there’s more to the house story than what you’ve opened up to. Maybe it’s none of my business, but there were at least 3 adults living in the house. Why couldn’t you guys keep it? Do you get along with your parents? Were you the sole provider? Where are your parents and brother living now and why didn’t you choose to live with them? Sorry for these hard questions-I’m really just curious to hear more about your story
@bratzboyz
@bratzboyz Ай бұрын
You're not the only one curious about this, I was wondering the same thing. But then someone in the comment-section mentioned these homes are 1-million dollar homes, it is an exclusive area...I wonder if that was the price when he bought the home! Or if it was slightly less than that. I believe he mentioned he earned at the lower end of six-figures before he lost his job (I wonder if that was 'gross' pay or 'take-home pay rather), I don't think he was making enough to pay for that house...even working at 'Tesla' anyway (maybe-not sure). Was there a possibility he could have purchased a cheaper home? There are rather more modest homes where I live, for under $300,000...so yeah, you get no 'lake'...and hardly a back yard, but you still get a home that you can sell later, for a higher price...and he can still get a job that pays modest if not slightly above what a regular employee makes, specially with his skills and 'work-history'...I mean he worked at 'Tesla', one of the most coveted companies in the world at the moment (something soon to end-so I hear lol). 🤔

So me my parents and my lil bro all input into the house, it was a team effort. And when one pillar gets knocked down, the others need to hold it up. So essentially when 1 income earner lost a job (me) it was not good. I was not the “sole earner” in buying the house and paying the mortgage

I suggest that once you go to bed that you remove the window covers to the sides of you. Why? that way your able to see outside during the night if anyone is creeping outside of your car. With the window shades up you can't see who's outside your car during the night. If you can see them you can react quicker if there is ever any danger. That's what I do, I remove my window shades at night!

Hi, Nico. Don't be down bc you made the right decision to sell the house. Trying to hold onto would have put you on a path to heart disease, young brother. Your family knows you made the right move. It was your 1st house but not likely your last. I also had to sell my 1st house at 25 after having it for 5 yrs, so i know the feels. You have the on point instincts, skills, resourcefulness, attitude, and love of constant learning & improving that read continued successes. The living space of a Tesla, even the climate controlled camping mode of the model Y, is a lot less than the tiniest house, but loneliness can occur in any living space... space and loneliness aren't necessarily related. Hold firm to your joys, in time you'll appreciate your alone moments more and more. Your situation is still leagues better than for most people in the world. I think it's healthy voice negative aspects bc it helps stimulate thoughts on how to resolve as is possible. Some things are just out of our control. We move forward with what we have, o di ba? And you remain stinkin' rich, ay 'sus!, having your family and truest friends. I think it'd be v interesting content to learn how your reactions to negative aspects evolve and how you solved difficulties or challenges. Also, if you've not deployed the use of any yet, i've found counseling to be a great sounding board to help stimulate ideas and how i regard perceived shortcomings. New sub here. Kindly absorb each carefully chosen word. And know that you inspired my thinks she knows what's what to look at model Y's in a new light as alternate drivesble housing! Peace, young bruh, peace. ✌🏼👩🏻‍🦳

Just because the system is not perfect doesn’t mean it doesn’t work. I understand how you feel though, I lost my home in the 2008 recession, that lead me to a path of wanting leave everything and live a “simple life”. I think it’s great as long as you are enjoying camping in the car but it’s not sustainable for your personal health in the long run. You can rent an apartment for cheap, cover expenses and still make money to invest. Plus it’s great you didn’t sell your Tesla shares, 500shares will be worth about a million in five years, that is plenty of money to retire and live of anual return on investment of 10% imo.

Instead of living in your tesla, get a cdl a and live in the truck, while getting paid. No reason to even live in a car without pay. To be dependent on Tesla for your finances, to get a house and car, to support your family while working at Tesla, that is your own fault. We know how it goes over there, anyone can be fired and laid off any second. Get a career.

She replied back with CALL ME! So i did, we gave the sellers their asking price..no time to haggle.. did a contract over the phone, she presented it to her sellers, they accepted..ALL. WITHIN. FOUR. I sleep in my Model Y after work. I get off at 7:15 in the morning working at SFO. I used to to do the whole foam matress thing and block out the windows. Now I just use eye blindfold and recline my seat all the way down and put it on camp mode. I go park at Costco in the morning and sleep there. I am well rested when I wake up around 11 to noon. I do that instead of driving all the way home to the valley. I think I'm gonna have my front windows and windshield tinted for privacy. Is yours tinted Nico? My back windows are already tinted since it's the Perfomance model. Btw, you have or had a nice house. I go through there coming from Tracy using the back road when I go to Lathrop doing my appliance repair service calls. I see those nice homes with long back yards going to the water/lake. Those homes are over a million and going up quite a bit. Right Nico? I understand about selling btw.

@@NicoMurillo Oh I did nnot know it was paid off. That different. Then I would not sell the Tesla. A van have big maintaince cost in the biginning unless its new. After that its safer(have less window if its a cargo van), i know charging is not cheap, people did the cost of charging and gas said its about the same with gas a little more like 100-200 a year. But its more stable being able to use out of Cali. There not as much charging station in America and you save time. Just fule up and then take off no waiting for the charge to be full. Time is money. Which is hard if your living in it. But yah I did not know its paid off. Definitely save money cause it paid off no need for another vehicle. I agee with you that staying in the game will have a change or chance in the future. Good luck in the future, hope your condition improve.
