To watch this in the morning, in a quiet house, with a good cup of coffee, and the dulcet quiet tones of Frank, is like therapy I didn’t know I needed. I can’t wait for those turning projects in a couple years!

I found Frank's videos at a very tumultuous and difficult time in my life. Hearing this guy so calmly and patiently mention projects taking years, and being completely okay with it, was so alien to me while trying to survive week to week and day to day. It feels a little embarrassing to say, but the way he approaches his art was a huge reminder to me that things can be okay, that things will be okay. These videos really are something special.

I’ll remember to catch-up in a couple of years. That last bowl looked super interesting. It could make a brilliant bowl. Especially if you can keep the bark attached.

I love your videos! The little touches like the BANJO and barking...the production value, along with your voice-over details, makes it a pleasure to watch each of your projects! Can't wait to see those bowls work in a year! And most important, unlike some, you actually give some thanks at the end, in credits, to your son and Ben. Kudos to you, Frank!

Hey Frank👍, the wood we all love is black walnut but English walnuts make the best fruits. Calvin helping you 😃 awesome !! I’ve watched him grow up. Enjoy your kids my friend, they grow up fast. Great video

Beautiful hunk of walnut; nice prequel to next year's 2nd-part of the project. [Also, your video production values are excellent; the little touches of whimsy really add to the enjoyment/entertainment factor]

Great video. All of my turnings come from wood I harvest and process the same way. I just got a huge beechwood tree. Almost 36 inches across. About twenty feet in length. I had to cut it into three pieces to get it home. Free wood is awesome.
@myksbox3 жыл бұрын
excellent utilization of that piece as a whole. Those slabs looked beautiful and of course the turning pieces as well. Techniques were very cool too, from lifting and the alaskan mill to the turning stuff. I'm very partial to walnut, and making use of the shape as provided is part of the ride. Great video and some very well earned prizes there

At the end of this video (as with most of your videos) I hear the squeaky clamp and I think yeah sure we gotta let the bowl blank dry but surely there is something lying around the shop we could scrape up and make something out of. It always feels like a weekend hanging out in the shop while watching your videos

Thanks for lots of really good tips about turning or theory about turning. In all my KZbin wood working viewing I'd never heard that about the difficulty turning the center because it's not moving or the speed on larger pieces not needing to be as high because of the diameter of the piece. :)

Black Walnut is used as the rootstock. Better root system but makes small nuts with very hard shells. English Walnut is Grafted on (ok, "spliced" works too) makes larger better tasting nuts with thinner shells. I had one of those in my yard and it died several years ago and I slabbed the black walnut burl as well. Beautiful wood!

English Walnut trees make the super hard shell walnuts with no real meat in them (root stock) the Black walnut makes the thinner shelled walnuts with way more meat (grafted stock) If you ever get a chance to get ahold of some grafted Pecan the grain / color swirl at the graft is fantastic.

Nice seven point turn positioning the truck to hoist out the log ;) I think you might have gotten a little bit lucky maneuvering the log. It looks like there were a couple moments where it could have gone very badly. Those will all be really neat projects when the wood is ready. It's amazing to me how much future planning and patience is part of advanced woodworking.

The banjo was good but the barking dog was the best, took my wife four times through it t to finely but the two barks together Putting CA glue on the exposed bark will help to hold it together. Soaking it with the CA glue at least couple of times is the best. The English walnut is the root, black walnut root does not like it’s feet in a high water table situation. That’s why they graft the two types of trees. LT

When you attach a growth bud from on tree on another its called grafting and the bud added is referred to as the graft. It is a common practice with fruit trees.
