Moving The Final Cars From Ossipee Central

Mill Brook Railroad

Күн бұрын

I bought a miniature railroad to add on to the Mill Brook Railroad. The Ossipee Central was built in 1970 at the residence of Dwight Winkley in Ossipee, NH. Over the years, Dwight shared his passion for small railroads with anyone who happened to stop by. He was also very active in railway preservation in New England.
After Dwight's death in March, 2023, his family (who live in Alaska) sold off what they didn't want or couldn't care for. My Friend Hank bought the railroad because he wanted two pieces of equipment and so we made a deal where I would buy the rest of the railroad from him, install it at the Mill Brook Railroad, 83 miles away in Windsor, VT and allow him to run on it anytime he wanted.
Today, we're moving the last riding car and the caboose to temporary storage at the Shady Pines Railroad.
Did you know? The Mill Brook Railroad is funded entirely by KZbin ad revenue and patrons on Patreon! You can help support the Mill Brook Railroad by becoming a patron as well. You'll get advance access to videos and some exclusive content.

Very happy to see this happening and that the railroad is getting moved. This turntable may be a good replacement for the old Mill brook Railroad turn table. The old steam locomotive may be fun. May have to try it with doing a load of wood pellets at one point. Anyways I look forward to seeing the restoration and the expansion of the former ospey central railroad to the Mill brook railroad!

It's good to see these pieces being taken to another location and not sent for scrap. I will be following your channel now, mostly because I do enjoy seeing these old pieces going to a new home.

The drive in that homemade blue engine is from Miller Backyard Railroads. Robert E. Miller of Bath, PA took over the Texas Railways business in the early 1950s. The Miller drive consisted of a conical leather plug (which you found largely chewed by rodents) driven by the gas engine. the drive was transmitted through a flexible coupling and a long shaft to allow the leather cone to be moved right or left against one of two conical spool pieces for forward and reverse. In 1962, I purchased a Miller, nee Texas Railways "deluxe car kit" from Bethlehem Pattern & Model Works. This "deluxe kit consisted of castings for trucks, couplers. end sills, body bolsters, and one brake wheel casting. In those days, live steamers and other riding railroaders with few exceptions built their own equipment.

Thanks for the information! These days, most people want to buy something already built, and that's why I build locomotives and cars.
@cristrax

I have enjoyed building most of the equipment on my Forest & Western RR including two steam engines and one "diesel." The Miller trucks from the "Deluxe car kit" mentioned above are now equipped with ball bearings and grace a recently completed scratch built N&W HL hopper car (the N&W had 12,500). I share your sentiment on how quickly private riding railroads come and go. The Forest & Western is 45 years old and hopefully will continue running for some time!

Kind of off topic from the point of the video, but those large springs you found in the blue engine are door springs for a car or truck built by General Motors. It’s the old style door stop that they used to put on all their cars until the early 90’s. I’m a mechanic and work on classics all the time as well as own a few so I knew what they were right away haha. I’m in the garage watching this right now and have a set of springs sitting next to me 😂

It is nice that you are going to fix everything. Bring it to your railroad. But on the turntable that has the hydraulic lift that is buried underground. I know for sure, California and a lot of other states banned the use of those because they leak oil into the ground , which you can see oil around it. You might think twice about using that design on your own system. Even auto shops now have to use above ground hydraulic systems. A lot of the old gas stations That Had those systems are. shut down and considered Has Matt contaminated Ground soil Possible to get down into the. water table. Just take note of that I due like your show. Keep up the good work I am disabled. Cannot travel wish? I could come see ride your trains. But that will never happen like watching the videos, thank you.

@MillBrookRailroad That is nice stay above ground if you can. If you use that Lift below ground, you need to have a vault where you could totally walk around it.
