As a person familiar with Atl, there is an effective meme that sums up Atl perfectly. “Atlanta is an hour away from Atlanta.”

This is true. So many spots in Atlanta are terrific to live in, but when you need to get somewhere, you find out they are an extra 20-30 minutes away. City of Decatur and Avondale Estates are two great examples.

Crime, homelessness, trash, aggressive drivers and increasing taxes …. That’s my 5. I am a long time Atlanta resident. I would do a little more homework and not base your decision on the weather, Fauna or the insects/animals that live in the area. And please don’t move here without a job. Oh and depending on what side of town you live on you may or not have a grocery store that’s convenient to you.

Hey thanks for commenting! Most large metro areas in the US are having problems with increased crime and homelessness in the last couple of years. Many people are moving here from New York and California, and things that may surprise them are how many bugs we have an how humid it is.

I'm laughing about Snowpocalypse 2014, because I got to witness it firsthand. We flew in from Ohio to do some deployment training, so we flew directly into the base and missed all the highway traffic. We were supposed to be staying on cots in tents outside, but we were moved to lodging because the permanent staff was afraid the pines would fall on the tents from all the ice. The base closed, so only essential personnel were on duty. All the people who were stuck working came to eat with us, since our people were making hot meals. It was just insane to me that the city really lost it over two inches of snow lol. I even heard someone gave birth in a car in the traffic jam. I remember the permanent staff calling it Snowmageddon/Snowpocalypse. Still makes me crack up. Now considering a move to Atlanta for work, I'm glad to hear that was an extreme case, and it's not like that every winter!

Hey Stephanie - we are lucky it doesn't happen that often! Atlanta is not prepared at all for ice storms of that magnitude. The schools all let out at once - our son's school released the children and parents had to pick them up. Road were very treacherous on the way there. It was not fun!!!

Love it! One of the most informative glad you brought up the spider and snake issues.. I was wondering how the Carolinas had so many copperhead issues but I never hear any Georgians complain..

Yes - always be aware when you are near water - esp. trails near creeks. That's where the copperheads like to hang out.

The one benefit from Snowmagedon, is that Atl received the necessary equipment to prevent a similar occurrence in the future.

I hope so. You do see those shelter structures on the side of 285 now. I was told they are for salt storage in case of snow and ice.

The reason why Atlanta/Northern half of GA, has such huge problems when it snows is, the only snow plows in the state are at Hartsfield International Airport and that's where they stay.

One thing I dont like about Georgia is everything is on the north side of Atlanta. For example, Whole foods. Theres no other whole foods in the entire state except one in Savannah.

My first suggestion would be Old Fourth Ward. It's a vibrant community, lots of art, music, culture, restaurants, just East of downtown. Also has higher density housing like condos so there's always people around. Close to the Beltline for running and biking, they have a huge lantern parade every fall. Also easy to hit the highway and head South if you are going to be working at any of the film studios. If you want to see some places on April 14 that would be cool. Feel free to call or text.

Hello, I have been watching your videos and they are very helpful. I will be moving atlanta for 7 to 8 months period, do we get budget friendly ( like $1000 or less rent per month) shared or studio homes near downtown, dunwoody or sandysprings areas?
@movingtoatlantaga

Hi Sai. Unfortunately rents seem to start at $1,500 per month in Atlanta. Rents are out of control right now.

Crime tends to be very localized, so it is best to consult a crime map if you have any questions about a certain area.
